Exciting times ahead for sustainable fashion! 📢 1. ASOS.com has teamed up with Hirestreet to launch the UK’s biggest retailer-rental partnership, enabling subscribers to rent five fashion items monthly for £75. This expanded service gives access to over 20,000 styles, including casual wear options (a notable shift, moving beyond rentals for special occasions). This collaboration with a big mainstream fashion brand highlights an industry move toward accessible, circular fashion alternatives. 2. Textile-to-textile recycling pioneers Syre and Selenis are joining forces to create a gigascale polyester recycling facility in North Carolina, marking a major step in sustainable fashion production. Set to produce up to 10,000 metric tons of circular polyester annually by 2025, the partnership integrates depolymerizing and polymerizing technologies on one site, aiming to decarbonize the textile industry and significantly reduce waste. 3. The Australian government is investing AU$4 million in The Woolmark Company for a wool industry "insetting" program that directly reduces emissions within the textile supply chain. This initiative, connecting global brands with Australian woolgrowers committed to sustainable practices, offers a scalable model for GHG reductions aligned with Science Based Targets. It's an example of how government and business can synergize to accelerate sustainability efforts. #positivenews #sustainablefashion #manufy #circularfashion

Some insightful industry updates to consider as you navigate the journey toward building a sustainable and circular fashion business. We welcome your thoughts! 🤔♻️ 1 Amazon is planning to launch an ultra-budget storefront to better serve cost-conscious customers, challenging popular discount platforms like Shein and Temu. By sourcing products directly from Guangdong, China, and lowering fulfillment fees for sellers, Amazon hopes to offer competitively priced items. Sure, this strategic shift could expand affordable options for U.S. shoppers in a tough economy. But do we really want to flood the world with more clothes that are clogging our recycling systems? 2 Levi Strauss & Co. has signed on as the 129th brand to the Pakistan International Accord, a legally binding agreement dedicated to improving garment workers' safety and rights. This accord mandates essential health and safety measures, factory inspections, and protections for workers' rights across Pakistan's garment industry. It’s a significant moment, showing how fashion brands are increasingly standing in solidarity with workers—a vital step forward for ethical and sustainable fashion. 3 The upcoming negotiations to reform the EU Waste Framework Directive, starting later this month, are crucial for creating a regulatory environment that supports sustainable growth in the second-hand fashion sector. A report by Oxford Economics shows this sector contributed an estimated seven billion euros to the GDP of the EU27+ in 2023. While second-hand exports positively impact local economies in Africa, challenges remain as low-quality garments strain waste management systems. Supportive policies are essential to create fair jobs and ensure the sector’s resilience. #sustainablefashion #circularfashion #manubites

We’re excited to announce our partnership with certification partner SANE STANDARD! 🎉 The certification helps fashion brands committed to sustainability and ethical practices communicate their responsible production efforts and prepare for upcoming legislation. SANE's certification process assesses product composition, material sourcing, and manufacturing methods, allowing for the certification of individual products or entire collections. Certified brands can easily share sustainability data with consumers through a QR code for full traceability and authenticity, aligning with EU regulations like the Green Claims Directive. Discover how SANE can elevate your sustainable practices at Manufy. https://lnkd.in/eu4RKDmj #legislationpreparation #sanestandard #circularfashion #sustainablefashion #manufy

News from our future-proof industry🍃 1) An industry-backed white paper is calling on the UK Government to introduce variable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees to enhance sustainability. The UK fashion industry contributes £62 billion to the economy but produces 336,000 tonnes of clothing waste annually. The proposed EPR fees aim to shift waste management costs to producers, encouraging sustainable design, repair, and reuse, thereby fostering a circular economy for fashion. Read more: https://lnkd.in/epgpFgzA 2) German textile recycling company SOEX and I:Collect has filed for insolvency after nearly 50 years in operation. Soex employs over 430 people and is seeking self-administration to navigate this crisis. Despite the hurdles, management is optimistic about finding a new investor and seizing opportunities in sustainable textile recycling, especially with new legislation for separate textile collections set for 2025. But let's remember that Soex is not the first to struggle with fierce competition from low-cost imports from China, underscoring the urgent need for robust support for circular service providers. 3) On a brighter note, researchers at Cornell University, led by Professor Juan P Hinestroza, Ph.D., are making strides in sustainable textile solutions. They’ve developed a low-temperature method to create waterproof coatings from discarded textiles using eco-friendly solvents. This method significantly cuts down on harmful chemicals in textile manufacturing. The research not only reduces waste but also points to safer, more sustainable production methods. #manubites #industrynews #calltoaction

Manufy Circular Celebrations was a huge success, and we couldn't be more proud! With over 125 guests sharing positive ideas, we made our case clear: the transition to circular fashion is possible.🎉 Yesterday, on October 17th, we welcomed fashion brands and experts from our supportive network at Fashion for Good in Amsterdam to discuss the future of sustainable fashion. The event featured inspiring talks from Decathlon Nederland, MENDED, Byewaste, and others, focusing on reducing emissions and integrating circular practices like repair and reuse into business models. The panel, moderated by Natasja Van Den Berg, included insightful contributions from Agnes Weber, Bianca Streng, Sofie Schop, and Frouke Bruinsma. As we explored the biggest challenges ahead, it became clear that with the right strategies, scaling circular collaborations and innovations can drive meaningful change in the fashion industry. Key takeaways that all brands can start working with tomorrow: 1) Start with Design: Integrate circularity as a core requirement in the design process. 2) Get the Data: Partner within the industry to share data, learn from each other, and make informed circular decisions. 3) Show How It's Done: One great solution—like repair (MENDED) or direct forwarding of returns (It Goes Forward)—can inspire the industry and get everyone on board. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation. Let’s keep the momentum going! #CircularCelebrations #Manufy #SustainableFashion #CircularEconomy Nout Knabben Gareth Anderson Hanne Elisabeth P. Country of Origin (COO) is crucial when addressing your brand's sustainability challenges. Where you produce affects how you produce, influencing factors like price, quality, and ethical considerations. These elements, in turn, impact your regulatory compliance. Given the evolving landscape of fashion legislation and the opportunities presented by sustainable materials and circular solutions, it’s essential to evaluate the regions in which you produce. ✅ Did you know that Manufy creates roadmaps for brands to effectively tackle all these sustainability challenges in the right order?💡 Visit manufy.com #manufy #regulatorycompliance #fashionbrand

New feature highlighting the core of our work at Manufy in Dagblad van het Noorden.🗞️ Journalist Wouter Hoving asked our founder, Nout Knabben, to comment on ASN Bank’s recent decision to divest 70 million euros worth of shares from fashion companies that have lagged behind in their sustainability efforts. ‘Nout Knabben from the Groningen-based start-up Manufy understands that ASN, as a sustainable bank, does not want to be associated with fast fashion giants. As the director of Manufy, he helps European clothing manufacturers on their journey towards sustainability. Currently, the vast majority of the clothing industry operates on linear business models, he explains. "From production, to use, to waste." This must eventually become circular: clothing materials that last longer, are worn more often and for longer periods, and when they do end up in the trash, they are processed into new clothing.” #positivenews #manufy #sustainablefashion
