Together, we develop the energy research agenda and we advocate strong and effective programmes for energy R&D. We exchange knowledge between the members, but we also want to share our knowledge with the world.

Electricity from low tide? According to NERA member TNO, with the ‘underwater kite’, Ameland will soon have the first opportunity to generate hashtag#electricity with the current in the sea. This is a promising alternative to wind turbines to make the Wadden area more sustainable. That it has potential, TNO recently revealed in their research for the Waddenfonds. So they took a close look at six techniques to generate #energy from seawater. What emerges: the Wadden Islands can already meet a significant part of their demand for sustainable electricity by 2030 by making smart use of waves and tides. Dit is een veelbelovend alternatief voor windmolens om het Waddengebied te verduurzamen. Dat het potentie heeft, brachten we laatst nog uit in ons onderzoek voor het Waddenfonds. Zo namen we zes technieken onder de loep om #energie op te wekken uit zeewater. Wat blijkt: De Waddeneilanden kunnen al in 2030 voor een significant deel zelf in hun vraag naar duurzame elektriciteit voorzien door slim gebruik te maken van golven en getijden. We would like to invite you to the free symposium “Trends and technology needs for biobased fuels and chemicals” on the 20th of September at the Eindhoven University of Technology, organized by EU H2020 project HIGFLY, coordinated by TU/e. The HIGFLY_H2020 consortium was born around 4 years ago and it was set up to develop new technologies for the efficient conversion of second generation biomass to sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) via furanics. As the project comes to an end, the HIGFLY consortium looks back with pride into this fruitful collaboration and what they have achieved together: the emergence of new technologies, materials and reactors for a more sustainable future. Also very important, they have gained great insights that they want to share and discuss. The symposium will cover the main results of the HIGFLY project, as well as a series of plenary lectures by external speakers who are references in the field. Among the confirmed speakers, we welcome contributions from: Prof. Andre Faaij (University of Utrecht/TNO) Prof. Jean-Paul Lange (University of Twente/Shell) Dr. Andrea Gutierrez (UPM) Dr. Jorge Bueno Moron (Avantium) The consortium aims at a very interactive session, and we look forward to your participation!
