𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐛𝐮 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝟗𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝! 🎉 It was in the winter of 1935 when the 𝘉𝘝 𝘕𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘥𝘦 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘷𝘢𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘹 was founded. On 22 February to be precise. This day marked the beginning of a rich history in submarine, naval vessel and floating offshore energy engineering. 𝐀 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝟗𝟎 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬: 🔹 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 – We contributed to the design of every Dutch submarine. Our long history in submarine engineering began with the Sep and Orzel for the Polish Navy, and to this day, we support navies worldwide with submarine design, modernisation, and upkeep.  🔹 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐬 – We designed a significant number of naval vessels for the Royal Netherland’s Navy and foreign navies. Recent projects include the modernisation of the Indonesian Bung Tomo-class frigates, the detailed design of new OPV’s for the Pakistan Navy and the platform engineering scope of the PES frigate for the Colombian Navy.    🔹 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 – In the 90s, we expanded our activities in the floating offshore energy sector with the engineering of FPSOs and tankers. Our latest innovation, a patented floating offshore substation, enables energy production in deep waters, expanding the possibilities for offshore wind. 💬 "While Nevesbu was once called the best-kept secret in the maritime industry, we have built a strong international position. 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧! - 𝐀 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝟗𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐛𝐮 In 1936, Nevesbu secured its first submarine project: the design of two submarines for the Polish Navy, the Sep and the Orzel. This order also included a grain deal. The Netherlands supplied the submarines to Poland and, in return, committed to purchasing certain quantities of grain from Poland. Nevesbu designed the submarines based on the Dutch O-19 class submarines. The submarines were built by two Dutch shipyards: De Schelde constructed the Orzel and the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM) constructed the Sep. The submarines were handed over to the Polish Navy in 1939. This project marked the beginning of a rich history in designing submarines for navies worldwide. It all started with the designs of the ‘flotilla leader’ Tromp and the Sep and Orzel submarines. This was just the start of a long history in remarkable submarine, naval vessel and floating offshore energy projects. 𝐀 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 💡 Floating offshore substations face significant challenges, particularly due to the dynamic conditions at sea. The main challenge is that existing high-voltage equipment is not designed to withstand the continuous movements and accelerations experienced by a floating substation. As a result, the equipment and cables are susceptible to fatigue and damage, which can affect the reliability and lifespan of the installations. Nevesbu developed a patented cable guide system to address these challenges. This system is specifically designed to mitigate fatigue issues in DC export cables. Our solution involves placing a cable guide system underneath the floating substation which absorbs the forces of all the waves and motions of the substation, thus supporting the electricity cable and limiting stresses in the cable. 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES), is being developed for the Colombian Navy. The PES frigate, based on Damen Naval’s SIGMA 10514 series, is designed to combine versatility and combat capability while being tailored to meet Colombia’s specific requirements. This is where Nevesbu’s advanced naval architecture and platform systems integration capabilities play a key role. Damen recently contracted Nevesbu for the platform engineering scope of the PES frigate. This scope includes both basic and detailed engineering. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 - 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫! We worked on multiple challenging projects ranging from submarine projects in four different countries worldwide to new surface combatants and the design and engineering of innovative floating offshore energy structures. Projects with which we contribute to safety and energy security worldwide, and of which we are very proud. Significant milestones this year include the successful delivery of the Offshore Patrol Vessel PNS Hunain to the Navy, providing engineering and consultancy services for maintenance of the two submarines of the Royal Malaysian Navy, and securing the contract from Damen Naval for the platform engineering scope of the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) frigate for Colombia. '𝐀 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐎𝐟', that’s how magazine 𝘋𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘶𝘳 describes the Engineering Talents of 2025. Our colleague Lennart Buitendijk, senior naval architect, is one of the fifteen talents selected by 𝘋𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘶𝘳. But why was he selected? Floating substations, submarines, and naval vessels – the projects Lennart works on are highly complex and important for society. “My interest in shipping started at an early age, and both during my studies and here at Nevesbu, I immediately felt at home”, says Lennart. One of the projects Lennart plays a key role in is the development of a floating offshore substation concept – a promising innovation that has already resulted in several patents. Globally, and in the North Sea as well, wind farms are being constructed in increasingly deeper waters. By 2050, it’s expected that around 250 gigawatts of sustainable energy will be generated by floating wind farms located further offshore, where the winds are stronger, and the seas are rougher. “What I enjoy most is that this field is so new.
