  • Industrial clusters are essential for scaling clean energy infrastructure. By aggregating demand and sharing resources, knowledge and risks, they unlock opportunities to deploy clean energy solutions.   Whitepaper “Unleashing the Full Potential of Industrial Clusters: Infrastructure Solutions for Clean Energies” examines the current state of #CleanEnergy #Infrastructure and identifies solutions in accelerating its deployment, all highlighting the need for collaboration, both within and across clusters. Port of Rotterdam joined the Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative and contributed with insights around New and enhanced business models (page 29-31). This report confirms the crucial role industrial clusters can play in scaling up and accelerating the energy transition. Also, the necessity to cooperate and connect with other clusters to achieve strong connected clusters is one of the key conclusions of the report.   Explore in the paper 19 leading examples from 9 countries, showing how stakeholders have successfully leveraged industrial clusters to overcome the infrastructure challenge, achieving outcomes that would be unattainable in isolation, by applying economies of scale, sharing risks, aggregating, and optimizing demand, and securing financing.   As part of a growing community of now 33 signatory clusters we are looking forward to the next milestones within the initiative.    This whitepaper is written by The World Economic Forum’s Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative, in collaboration with Accenture and EPRI. Through two pilot projects, the ports have demonstrated how digital solutions can reduce errors, prevent delays, and decrease food waste in container shipments. The first pilot introduced a single platform for sharing information among chain parties, enabling better insight into document status and accuracy. This approach allowed for early error detection and correction (0% errors in documentation), significantly reducing the need for extensive email communication and preventing substantial financial losses due to documentation blockages (300k saved in value).  The second pilot employed artificial intelligence to detect errors in documentation (over 95% of all errors detected), further enhancing the efficiency of the supply chain. These initiatives underscore the importance of collaborative efforts and open innovation in streamlining logistics and improving competitiveness within the port community. For a comprehensive overview of these pilots and their impact on the future of port operations, read the full article in the Rotterdam Port Magazine: https://lnkd.in/epsGDV8s #HiFromTheFuture #PortOfRotterdam #HavenRotterdam #Digitalisation

  • 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐑𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐫: 𝐩𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 The Delta Rhine Corridor (DRC) is set to become a vital link for transporting green hydrogen, CO₂, and hydrogen carriers between the Port of Rotterdam and industrial hubs in the Netherlands and Germany. As part of the transition to sustainable energy, this 270-kilometre network will play a key role in reducing CO₂ emissions and building a strong hydrogen economy in Europe. While the timeline for completion has shifted to 2032, progress continues, with key infrastructure like the national hydrogen network already under construction. The Port of Rotterdam Authority remains committed to working with partners to realise this critical project and support the transition to a climate-neutral future. • 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗽-𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗨'𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 Strengthening industry in Europe is a top priority for the new European Commission. To that end, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Rotterdam joined forces on Tuesday 14 January in Brussels. At the Solvay Library, high-level representatives from EU institutions, national governments and the business community discussed the crucial role of Europe’s biggest ports in the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. Wopke Hoekstra (European Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth): “We’ve reached a juncture where industrial growth with emission reductions is not just a choice. It’s a necessity. For far too long, there’s been a prevailing narrative that business and climate don’t mix. However, with this new Commission, we are writing a different story. As we push ahead towards a cleaner, greener future, we must take all European businesses along with us, from innovative clean tech companies to traditional heavy industries. This is what our new Clean Industrial Deal is about.” Ports are well-placed and motivated to contribute significantly to the European Commission’s ambitions. During the event, there was a focus on the role of ports where flows of goods and energy converge with industry, driving new infrastructure developments and attracting new investments. This role can best be fulfilled if the deal focuses on connecting industrial clusters by strengthening cross-border energy infrastructure.
