At Porticus, we strive for a just and sustainable future where human dignity flourishes.
Over ons
Porticus is a philanthropic organisation that aims to create a just and sustainable future where human dignity flourishes. We recognise that not all people are able to live with dignity. Our work aims to strengthen the resilience of communities so that all people have ownership over their future and natural resources are used in a sustainable way. Our work is realized through strong networks of partners including local and global NGOs, communities, people with lived experience, policy makers and co-funders. We want systems to change in order to provide solutions to today’s social and environmental problems that benefit generations to come in four areas: the natural environment, societies, education and faith. Our work is led by the strategies of four priorities; Strengthening our Societies – making sure all people have agency and the opportunity to contribute Building Future Generations – strengthening social and emotional learning, especially for children in extreme adversity Caring for the Earth – ensuring a fair transition to a sustainable future Fostering Vital Faith Communities – fostering faith as a source of strength, particularly in Catholic communities In addition, through our special entities Argidius and Community Arts Lab, we work on tackling poverty through strengthening the ecosystem for small business and stimulating social movements through arts.

At Porticus, we are convinced that meaningful participation should be at the heart of all philanthropic practices. That's why Porticus has commissioned the study Expanding Our Understanding of Evidence for Meaningful Participation. The study found several concrete examples of evidence supporting the effectiveness of participatory approaches. Visit our website and learn more. Education is relevant when it understands students' needs and listens to their voices. At Porticus, we promote community participation in the design of education programmes. That's why Robert Doble, Education Director, Porticus, and Anna Christina Azevedo Nascimento, Regional Director in Latin America, visited our partners and communities in the Amazon to find out what it means to make education inclusive of their needs. One of our goals is to make participation meaningful. We are constantly looking to improve, and our partners’ voices are vital in that process. Human dignity requires co-creation. When reflecting on the Porticus priorities for the remainder of the year, two ideas emerge. We need to enable more collaborative funding to magnify our capacity to address social, environmental and economic challenges and, at the same time, elevate participatory philanthropy through the meaningful participation of our partners and of the people with lived experience throughout our grant-making cycle. #participation #humandignity https://lnkd.in/eHMDtcH6
