Today, we announced Maria Torres-Springer, the former first deputy mayor of New York City, will return to the foundation as a senior fellow. During her fellowship, Torres-Springer will examine how local leaders across the country can drive complex policy solutions in the areas of housing affordability, climate change, and economic insecurity in an increasingly challenging landscape. Su fundación, Asesorarte, ha sido fundamental para mejorar la calidad de vida de personas afrodescendientes con discapacidad, de sus familias y de mujeres que ejercen labores de cuidado. Being the mother of a child with disabilities in Buenaventura, Colombia, without reliable access to economic resources or health services, drove Ana Bolena Rodríguez to advocate for the rights of Afro-Colombians with disabilities. One can make every economic or practical case for gender justice, but a society must be structured and stable enough to support it.
