  • Cervical cancer claims a woman's life every two minutes. It is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. However, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer if diagnosed early. This topic is discussed further in The Guardian's health awareness supplement. In the Women’s Health section, it says that one in 130 UK females will be diagnosed with cervical cancer in their lifetime, with around 99.8% of cases being preventable. The National Health Service is urging eligible women to schedule potentially lifesaving cervical screening, yet nearly a third fail to respond. This article highlights the barriers to attendance on page 14. “At risk women are not attending appointments due to a variety of reasons: they are worried, embarrassed, fear discomfort, have cultural reasons or potential previous trauma or simply do not have enough time. We strongly encourage women to visit their appointments. However, it is also important to address their unmet needs, through the use of an at-home self-testing kit.” Rovers innovative and market-leading brushes, used in more than 90 countries, can either be used by professionals or by patients at home to self-sample – leading to more accurate and easier diagnosis, ultimately saving lives.  Click here to read the full story found on page 14. https://lnkd.in/ett88SMZ

We are delighted to announce that we have acquired Rovers Medical Devices B.V., a leading manufacturer of sample collection devices, that help prevent and diagnose cervical cancer.     Cervical cancer claims a woman's life every two minutes. It is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. However, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer if diagnosed early. In November 2020, the World Health Organization declared it a public health concern and launched a strategy to accelerate early detection of cervical cancer by 2030 through increased pro-active screening.     Rovers, headquartered in Oss in the Netherlands, was founded in 1982 and makes sample collection devices to enable better screening of cancers. Every second a Rovers brush is used at least once to screen a woman for cervical cancer.  It aligns to Halma’s purpose to grow a safer, cleaner and healthier future for everyone, every day. Rovers’ innovative and market-leading brushes can either be used by professionals or by patients at home to self-sample – leading to more accurate and easier diagnosis, ultimately saving lives.

  • Today is World Cancer Day   Cancer has an enormous global impact, which sometimes seems unfathomable. Taking one’s own country as an example can be helpful in understanding. For instance: a total of 18 million women, children and men is the population of The Netherlands. 19.3 million is the number of new cancer cases in 2020, as estimated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), with 10 million people dying of the disease.   A World to be Won indeed.   A significant proportion of cancer cases and deaths worldwide are considered preventable, primarily through lifestyle changes and public health interventions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that up to one-third of all cancer cases are preventable based on current knowledge.   Cervical Cancer is preventable   Whereas Cervical Cancer is considered almost 100% preventable through vaccination and regular screening. Regular cervical cancer screening is crucial because it can detect changes in the cervix before cancer develops. It can also find cervical cancer early when it is in its most curable stage.   If there is 1 message to be shared today, then it is this:   Don't Fear the Smear   If you can then please get yourself checked by visiting your health care professional. Or get yourself checked by self-sampling for HPV in the privacy of your own home. Proven to be as good as a clinician’s taken sample: follow the link for more information and instruction for use of the Evalyn Brush.   https://lnkd.in/ePvmy69e

  • The most recent 2022 numbers from The Global Cancer Observatory are published today. An appropriate timing as this month is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Cervical Cancer; a preventable disease ...   ... Find – Guide – Treat Which is Rovers Medical Devices strategy to emphasize the significance of preventive measures. Regular screening through Pap smears and self-sampling HPV tests is the cornerstone of early detection. Hereby finding abnormal cells or the presence of HPV at an early stage, before developing into cancer, and thus allowing for timely treatment and intervention.   Evalyn Brush HPV self-sampler, most reliable That is why we are pleased to share this 2024 systematic review comparing HPV self-sampling devices. Once again, it is confirmed out of approximately 40 studies that the Evalyn brush is the most reliable HPV self-sampler in the market:   “The highest concordance rate between a self-collected sample and a clinician collected specimen was found for Evalyn Brush ranging from 89.2 % to 97.5 % and SN up to 100 %”   https://lnkd.in/eMvzyKAY

  • 17 November is the Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action   Join us in commemorating 3 years of global collaboration to eliminate cervical cancer, as it marks the day in 2020 when WHO launched the Global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 604 000 new cases in 2020. Of the estimated 342 000 deaths from cervical cancer in 2020, about 90% of these occur in low- and middle-income countries.    Rovers Medical Devices is at the forefront of the fight to end cervical cancers morbidity and mortality. The Cervex-Brush and Evalyn-Brush self-sampler are proven to be instrumental to that overarching goal.   We applaud the WHO initiative, in which is underlined that 70% of all women should at least be (self-)screened twice in her lifetime per 2030.   There is a World to be Won.

  • Awareness and knowledge about HPV and primary HPV screening among women in Great Britain — only 1 in 8 of women — understood the role of HPV testing within the screening process. Professor Jo Waller says improving awareness could help to "reduce feelings of uncertainty and confusion" about screening results. "It will also help people understand the reasoning behind any future updates to the screening programme  — such as HPV self-sampling — and changes to intervals between screening appointments."   Professor Waller et al measured HPV awareness, knowledge using eight true/false items, and understanding of the role of HPV testing in cervical screening. When asked to identify the statement describing how cervical screening works, only 12.2% correctly selected the statement reflecting HPV primary screening.   This points to continued need for awareness-raising campaigns to ensure informed choice about screening and mitigate public concern when screening intervals are extended.
