Learning a lot and getting more familiar with the different views on and approaches to animal welfare. These questions will be answered by Anne Huting, researcher #swine #nutrition during oral presentations at The 75th EAAP - European Federation of Animal Science Annual meeting in Florence, Italy (1-5 September, 2024).   In session 34 (Monday September 2 at 16:15 - Romagnola) we will discuss the results of a trial conducted at Schothorst Feed Research in which β-mannanase whilst added to a diet that had a lower E content did not negatively influence GF pig performance, but may result in a lower carbon footprint and reduced production costs.   In session 63 (Tuesday September 3 at 15:15 - Chianina) we will highlight that an addition of 0.2 m2 surface/ piglet will result in an addition of 900 g body weight at day 35 post-weaning, and that with an additional 3 feeding spaces an improved faecal consistency can be expected. The effect on tail damage will also be discussed.   See you there!

How does mechanical processing of grains influence ruminal and intestinal starch digestibility in dairy cows? What are the consequences when feeding technologically treated grains in a practical feeding situation on performance and rumen health? At the #ISRP 2025 in Chicago, Dr. Matthias Schilde, researcher in ruminant nutrition, will present a poster on the results from experiments carried out at Schothorst Feed Research. With lower particle size, greater rumen starch degradability has been observed, while bypass starch levels decreased. Adding 15% of a processed grain to practical diets of 60% grass, 20% corn silage, and 5% soybean meal did not affect performance and reticular pH.

Dat was een van de conclusies tijdens de Feeds & Nutrition Course van Schothorst Feed Research. Onder de noemer ‘Recent developments in animal nutrition’ worden voortaan in elke editie van de cursus actuele thema’s voor het voetlicht gebracht. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐚𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐤𝐨𝐦𝐬𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐤𝐯𝐞𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐟 De uitdagingen waar melkveebedrijven voor staan, vereisen dat het onderdeel gras in het rantsoen continu van topkwaliteit is. Ruwvoer is de basis van het rantsoen op melkveebedrijven. Op de meeste bedrijven is gras het belangrijkste ruwvoer, naast maïs of andere voedergewassen. “Het aandeel gras in het rantsoen is groot, maar de kwaliteit ervan is het meest lastig te managen”, zegt Wilfried van Straalen, senior onderzoeker en adviseur bij SFR. “Gezien de uitdagingen waar de melkveehouderij voor staat, móét elke maaisnede van topkwaliteit zijn. Een mislukte graskuil kunnen boeren zich niet meer veroorloven. De melkproductie loopt direct terug.” Lees meer op Melkvee.nl >>
