NOVUS Award winner 2024!🎖 The NOVUS award has the goal to recognize the excellence in dairy research and innovation carried out by young scientists in the very different fields of application. The award is given by EAAP and American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) every year and the winner is supported by NOVUS International to participate to the following year ADSA Annual Meeting, for the EAAP winner, and vice versa for the ADSA winner. In an effort to extend inclusivity, EAAP, for the past three years, has expanded the eligibility criteria, inviting all young researchers presenting scholarly papers on dairyrelated subjects to partake in the selection process. This year witnessed an impressive submission of 137 candidatures, meticulously curated down to 15 by the respective Study Commissions, which were then subjected to further scrutiny by a respected panel in Florence during the 75th EAAP Annual Meeting. It brings EAAP immense pride to announce that the recipient of the 2024 NOVUS Award is Martin Julius Gote (Belgium). Martin’s commendable contributions will be formally recognised during the Welcome and Award Ceremony next year, where NOVUS International will again offer their resolute support, enabling him to participate in the 2025 ADSA Annual Gathering.

QTL analysis to identify genes involved in the trade-off between silk protein synthesis and larva-pupa transition in silkworms 🪱🐛 In this study, researchers identified a QTL for RPC, which has been under selection during domestication and selective breeding of silkworm. Within this QTL, a gene that controls RPC was identified by CRISPR/Cas9. This result lays an important foundation for the molecular breeding of high RPC silkworm strains. Europe’s Contradicting Reality: Food safety, environmental impact and animal welfare 🌿🐮 While in some countries, such as the Netherlands, the topic of less animal protein is heavily discussed, consumer demand for animal products such as #milk , #eggs and #meat is growing rapidly internationally. This high demand has contributed to higher feed prices over the past few years. However, in contrast to this demand, food production is becoming increasingly difficult and productivity is declining due to various legislations on topics such as food safety, environmental impact and animal welfare. 🧐Read the article here👇 https://lnkd.in/dqZhJ65N #feed #sustainability #animalwelfare #FoodQuality

👨People Portrait: Adrien Lebreton Adrien was born and raised in the picturesque region of Normandy, France, where the scent of camembert and the sight of dairy cows shaped his childhood. As the grandson of two families of dairy farmers and the son of a beef cattle advisor, Adrien's passion with livestock farming was rooted from an early age. His academic pursuit led him to Institut L'Institut Agro Rennes-Angers in Brittany, another prominent region for animal production in France, where he graduated as an agricultural engineer with a specialization in Animal Science. It was during his master's program that he encountered Precision Livestock Farming during a 6-months visiting period in the University of Kentucky, under the mentorship of Prof. J.R.C. Costa. This initiates his interest for the interdisciplinary nature of PLF and its potential to make every day of his career different by mixing disciplines and a wide diversity of stakeholders. Adrien's research journey began during his master’s thesis, where he collaborated with Prof. Y. Le Cozler at INRAE, delving into the technology of 3D imaging for phenotyping ruminant contents. Subsequently, he transitioned into a role of PLF project manager at the French Livestock Institute (Institut de l'Elevage (idele)) in Paris in the Jean-Marc GAUTIER’s department. 🔎Read his complete profile here👇 https://lnkd.in/dzdJKaRr
