In Germany, WACKER consumes approximately 0.8% of the country’s electricity. As the group’s electricity demands grow, its relationship with TenneT is crucial. The appointment of Dr Markus Binder marks another important step in the organizational realignment of the TenneT Group. Since 1 January 2025, TenneT has strengthened its national focus and is now working in two separate organisations, TenneT Netherlands and TenneT Germany, both of which are part of the Group under a holding structure. In a year shaped by accelerating electrification, geopolitical uncertainties, and the increasing demand for clean energy, we invested over €10 billion in expanding and reinforcing the electricity grid. These investments are essential to ensuring an affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy supply for millions of people.  Some highlights:   ✅ 99.99988% onshore grid availability – keeping the lights on 24/7.   ⚡ Over €10 billion invested in expanding and modernizing our electricity grid.  🔧 30 initiatives launched to reduce grid congestion and increase capacity.   🌍 245 km of new circuit length added – expanding the capacity of our electricity network.   👷♀️ 1,350 new colleagues joined, bringing our total workforce to 9,700 professionals.  We recognize that challenges such as grid congestion, resource constraints, and affordability require long-term solutions. That’s why we are investing in technology, partnerships, and people to keep pace with the energy transition. 2025 marks the start of a new chapter as TenneT becomes two national TSOs – in the Netherlands and Germany – working towards the same mission: securing a future-proof and energy-secure electricity system for everyone. 🌊💡 Together for a green future   Yes, it's official now. Together with the consortium of Pensioenfonds ABP, pension investor APG and wind farm developer SSE Renewables, we will connect the IJmuiden Ver Alpha wind farm. This will be the first wind farm to be connected to our grid using the new 2 GW standard.   This new standard has many advantages. For example, direct current means less power loss over longer distances and saves space at sea and on land. It also requires fewer cables, platforms and stations than previous offshore grid connections. And has less impact on nature and environment.   The Netherlands currently has 4.7 GW of offshore wind power. With projects such as IJmuiden Ver Alpha (to be completed in 2029), we want to increase this to 21 GW by 2032. The consortium is helping to achieve this while making efforts to minimalise its impact on nature. For example, with artificial reefs and measures to protect birds and marine mammals.   We are very proud of our new collaboration.
