About us
SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence internationally. Part of the SSE plc group, we have an operational portfolio of around 4GW of onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro generation, with a secured future project pipeline of over 15GW in development. Our operational portfolio comprises nearly 2GW of onshore wind capacity, almost 0.5GW of offshore wind capacity, and almost 1.5GW of flexible hydro power and pumped storage capacity. These generation assets produce around 10TWh of renewable power each year. We're committed to delivering the green energy the world needs now and in the future. Our 15GW+ construction and development pipeline includes 3.8GW of onshore wind, 1.3GW of pumped storage, 1.2GW of solar energy and battery storage, and 8.8GW of offshore wind energy - the largest offshore development pipeline in the UK and Ireland. We know offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system and that's why we're building more offshore wind than any other company in the world right now. This includes the world's largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea, and the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast. We're a team of around 1,500 renewable energy professionals based across the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Japan and the USA. We've honed our skills through over 20 years of delivering world-leading projects with expertise in project design and optimisation, consenting and stakeholder engagement, financing, procurement, construction, and operations.

It is good to see more details about Great British Energy from Department for Energy Security and Net Zero this morning. The UK has fantastic natural resources, highly talented people and a great opportunity to become a clean energy superpower. The way to realise this potential is for government, industry and communities to work together. The UK already has a world-leading offshore wind sector where the focus should be on speeding up deployment. In other, earlier-stage technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, the government can play an important role in de-risking projects. As one of the biggest investors in mission-critical energy infrastructure in the UK we look forward to discussing co-investment opportunities with GB Energy, as together we create a more sustainable home-grown energy system.

Together with partners Equinor and Vårgrønn, we’re celebrating the completion of an important part of the first phase of the Dogger Bank project following the installation of more than 200 miles of 66KV inter-array cables. 🔌 The cables were laid by DEME Group offshore’s Viking Neptun, with burial works being completed by DEME Group Offshore’s Living Stone. 🚢 The network of 95 cables in a multitude of lengths up to 8.6 miles, will connect Dogger Bank A’s 95 Haliade-X 13MW turbines to the Dogger Bank A offshore convertor station. From here the electricity is converted into direct current for transmission to Dogger Bank A’s onshore convertor station via a pioneering HVDC system. ⚡ The successful installation of the cables is a result of great collaboration between all parties involved. 🤝 Read more about the laying of the cables and the next phases of the project below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dJDH7sCG

We have announced plans to progress a new pumped storage hydropower scheme at Loch Fearna in Scotland’s Great Glen, in a 50:50 development joint venture with a consortium led by Gilkes Energy Ltd. The proposed co-development is located at the western end of Glengarry around 25km west of Invergarry and adjoins our existing Loch Quoich reservoir in the Great Glen hydro scheme. Last week, alongside our consortium partner APG Financial, we announced that we are moving forward with the development of the 2GW Alpha site in the IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone in the Netherlands. 🇳🇱 Located about 62 kilometers off the Dutch coast off the port town of Ijmuiden, the IJmuiden Ver Alpha project would be capable of generating enough #offshore wind energy annually to meet around 7% of the current Dutch electricity demand. ⚡ The development marks our first seabed award in the established Dutch offshore wind market. The Netherlands represents a complementary and adjacent market to our existing North Sea offshore projects, with an established #supplychain and a mature corporate power purchase agreement market. 🌍 Subject to reaching a Final Investment Decision, expected by late 2025, the wind farm would be commissioned by the end of the decade. 🗓 We spoke to our Director of Offshore Wind, Paul Cooley, and Jasper Vis, our Country Manager for the Netherlands, about the development and what it means to SSE Renewables and the Netherlands. The Ossian project is a step closer to becoming a reality, as we have officially submitted the consent application for our offshore Array to the Scottish Government. 👏 Covering over 858km2, the Array includes the wind turbines, their floating foundations and moorings, offshore substations and associated inter-array cabling necessary for the project. Ossian's Development Lead, Rich Morris said: “We have worked hard to reach this significant milestone which is crucial in paving the way for a decarbonised future and supporting the Scottish and UK governments’ net zero targets."
