An Accra High Court has awarded Mohammed Mustapha, the husband of a pregnant woman, Akua Nyarko Osei-Bonsu, who died after a Caesarean Section at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in November 2019, GH¢3 million in damages. This follows a lawsuit filed by Mustapha in 2020, accusing the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, the Ministry of Health, and the Attorney General of negligence that led to the death of his wife after a Caesarean Section at the facility, as reported by thelawplatform.online. Background The pregnant woman, Akua Nyarko Osei-Bonsu, had been receiving antenatal care at the Ridge Hospital since 2019. In November, a Doppler scan at the hospital revealed that she had severe Intrauterine Growth Restriction( IGUR) and abnormal umbilical artery and Abnormal Umbilical Artery Doppler, a condition which pointed to placental insufficiency. Based on these findings, the report said, an emergency Caesarean Section was scheduled in December 2019 to save the lives of mother and baby. However after the operation, Akua developed thromboembolism, which led to her death and that of the baby. Claims of negligence In 2020, roughly a year after the death of his wife, Mustapha initiated legal action against the hospital, the Ministry of Health and the Attorney General, at an Accra High Court. He claimed damages arising from the death of his wife to the tune of GH¢5 million. The General Jurisdiction 7 of the High Court in the case of Mohammed Mustapha v Attorney-General, Ministry of Health judgement delivered judgement on July 31, 2024, the report said . It upheld the claims of Mustapha but awarded more than half of the quantum of damages arising from negligent conduct of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, located at Ridge. His lawyers argued that the Ridge Hospital, staff and management were negligent in their duties. They said the hospital's standard care includes both a pre- operating and postoperative standard care which includes prophylactic anticoagulant therapy, which the hospital's management failed to adhere to, to prevent conditions like thromboembolism. Although Mustapha purchased the necessary anticoagulant, it was not administered to his wife, the report added. His legal team said although the hospital was aware of his wife's condition, they failed to take preventive measures. They pointed out that other methods such as the use of compression stockings and early mobilisation should have been employed to prevent thromboembolism, a condition in which a blood clot (thrombus) breaks off from its original site and travels through the bloodstream. They cited the failure of these preventive methods as leading to her death. Read the full story here >>> https://lnkd.in/g8_cNw28

Fresh allegations by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, indicate that the contract for the procurement of ambulances by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government was handed to companies with direct links to the first family. In his latest epistle on the running ambulance story, Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the government awarded the purchasing contracts to eight companies, six of which, he claims, were established between April and September 2017. The North Tongu lawmaker claims that one of the companies, Elok Consult and Services Limited, has its directors as Stephen Okoro, who allegedly is a son-in-law of President Akufo-Addo, and his brother, Solomon Okereke. “The companies used by the presidential familial gang are: Elok Consult and Services Limited; BEFT Engineering Works Limited; Bluemix Company Limited; Prestige Era Company Limited; RDC Company Limited; Luxury World Auto Group Limited; and Quality Suppliers and Builders Company Limited. “Instructively, a majority, 6 out of the 8 companies, were formed between April and September 2017 — the year Akufo-Addo became President of Ghana. All 8 companies have no track record and expertise in the importation of ambulances. “Elok Consult and Services Limited was incorporated on 25th July, 2017. The directors are Stephen Okoro, the man who gave President Akufo-Addo his first granddaughter, and another gentleman who used the name Solomon Okereke for the company registration. Remember, the politically exposed Stephen Okoro is also a business partner of Gyankroma Akufo-Addo. They have incorporated numerous companies together, as I revealed in Part 2,” parts of his post read. Okudzeto Ablakwa also questioned the figure disclosed by then Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, stating that the amount Ghana splurged is not a true reflection of what he considers to be the actual value of the ambulances. In a detailed and mathematical breakdown of the figures, Okudzeto Ablakwa arrived at the conclusion that the US$54.3 million paid by Ghana should have at least fetched the country 678 ambulances. “From page 2 (paragraph 4) of the Auditor-General’s Performance Audit, government officials told auditors that the 307 Mercedes Benz ambulances were procured at a total amount of US$54.3 million. (Performance Audit attached). This figure of US$54.3 million is consistent with what then Special Development Initiatives Minister, Hawa Koomson, repeated to the Ghanaian media. "Meanwhile, page 24 (paragraph 46) of the same Performance Audit states that a unit price of the ambulance is US$80,000.00. (Performance Audit attached). At US$80,000.00 for one ambulance, the 307 ambulances should give us a total of US$24,560,000.00 and not US$54.3 million. "This really means that the procurement of the ambulances was unconscionably inflated by a scary US$29,740,000.00.

Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has criticized judges, magistrates, and the police, accusing them of inaction in the face of what he describes as state plunder orchestrated by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-Dr Mahamudu Bawumia government. Speaking in an interview on Joy News on July 29, 2024, KKD dismissed claims that the famous 'Agyapadie' document, a controversial document alleging a strategic plan to take possession of the Ghanaian economy, is fictional. "We have prosecutors, magistrates, judges, a police system and we are seeing that the content of this thing (Agyapadie document) is happening and you are sitting there twiddling your thumbs, scratching your balls, tickling your armpit, and laughing. "The plunder of state is real. We cannot pretend we cannot see it. It is sabotage. This is sabotage of the state. "I have looked closely over three and a half years and I have seen everything they have stated in that document happening. In the beginning, I said this was hogwash, the imagination of a fool, but right now I see it is the plan of the plunderers," myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said during the interview. His remarks follow a statement by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who dismissed the 'Agyapadie' document as a fabricated attempt to tarnish the image of the Ofori Panin household and the Akyem people. The Okyenhene's comments came after the document, which outlines a plan to entrench Akyem's dominance in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, resurfaced in both traditional and social media.
