The scientific ‘2024 State of the Climate Report’ is out: “We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster. This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperiled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis.” Co-authors include William Ripple, Christopher Wolf, Johan Rockström, Michael Mann, Stefan Rahmstorf, etc.

On Friday 25 October the free one-day international symposium 'Change the Climate – Change the Dialogue' will be held at the University of Twente. People from different backgrounds will share knowledge and ideas on effective communication and engagement strategies in the context of the climate crisis. Online attendance is also possible. Excited and honored to announce that I have been awarded an #ERCStG by the European Research Council (ERC)! With €1.5 million in research funding, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to establish and lead my own team over the next five years. Together, we will dive into the project ‘#CLIMPLEXITY: CLIMate Policy Integration—A comPLEXITY Trap?’, where we will investigate how synergies and contradictions in EU policies either foster solutions or create barriers to effective climate action, and examine the risks of falling into a complexity trap. I’m especially looking forward to collaborating with an outstanding and interdisciplinary group of scholars: Laurence Brandenberger, @LisaBeinborn, Johan Lilliestam, Philipp Trein, Simon Schaub, Thomas Bolognesi, Paul Wagner, Stéphane Nahrath, and Remco Van Der Hofstad. This project will open doors for further research partnerships and innovative ideas. Above all, this achievement would not have been possible without the support and inspiration from my colleagues, the University of Twente and its Grants Office, friends, and family. Thank you all!
