Voyex Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier technology makes the transition from diesel to zero emissions as easy as it gets.

Over ons

Voyex makes the transition from diesel to zero emissions as easy as it gets. Voyex provides an attractive zero-emission alternative for diesel-powered heavy duty applications and industries. In these segments, achieving emission reductions on CO₂ and other pollutants pose among the most complex challenges, which is why Voyex is determined to contribute to solving it. Voyex zero-emission Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology: - Little energy required for release hydrogen from LOHC - Has high energy content (60KG H2 / ton LOHC) - Realistically achieves 35-40% Well to Wheel efficiency - Is stored at room temperature and atmospheric pressure - Is safer than diesel (has a high flashpoint and lower toxicity than diesel) - Fine-meshed distribution directly to the place of demand - Re-use of diesel infrastructure assets - Can be used to replace diesel as a fuel (H2-ICE)

Meet Ankit Singh, Chemical Process Engineer at Voyex. Ankit has been a major contributor to Voyex02, our pilot de-hydrogenation system. This prototype is built to show how Voyex LOHC can be integrated into heavy duty applications. The de-hydrogenation system supplies hydrogen directly to an internal combustion engine which converts it into electricity. We will first use it to power a generator, later on we aim to integrate the technology directly into machinery, ships and many other applications. As you can see, we store the LOHC easily and safely in straightforward 'IBC' tanks at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperatures. We can do this because the liquid is not toxic and has a high flashpoint. Anticipating customer requirements, the Voyex LOHC molecule has been specifically selected for its low release temperature of hydrogen. The energy (heat) present within the exhaust of an internal combustion engine is sufficient to reach hydrogen release. As a result, only a small energy buffer is required for starting the engine, after which the release of hydrogen is fully supported through energy in the exhaust of the engine.

Planning for your inevitable zero-emission future tends to be a daunting task. Many of the available options are not yet fully developed and therefore come with a range of uncertainties and risks. One of the variables that will affect the competitiveness of your future business is energy efficiency.  At the current state, a Well 2 Wheel efficiency of 20-25% is obtained in the hydrogen supply chain.  𝗩𝗼𝘆𝗲𝘅 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝟯𝟱-𝟰𝟬% 𝗪𝟮𝗪 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.  The greatest efficiency win is the relatively low temperature required for de-hydrogenation (getting the hydrogen out of the LOHC). As a result, Voyex LOHC can be used as a replacement for diesel fuel by using a hydrogen combustion engine (mostly converted diesel engines).   The energy (heat) present in the exhaust gases of the ICE is sufficient to decouple the hydrogen from the carrier fluid (at a relative low temperature of 200-220 degrees centigrade). Therefore, using the hydrogen as fuel is a great option for greening heavy duty diesel applications. The raw materials for the Voyex LOHC can be derived from recycled plastic and residual flows of biomass which harvests and retains carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and also reduces the energy required for production.  Read more about how Voyex LOHC optimizes for energy efficiency here: https://lnkd.in/eSqkvaRf This is part three of our series 'things to consider when planning for your zero-emission future'. Meet Paola Arango Ponton, PhD, Chemical Research Scientist at Voyex. On a daily basis, Paola is optimizing the chemistry of the Voyex LOHC production process. The raw materials for the Voyex LOHC can be derived from recycled plastic and residual flows of biomass. Paola is making the production process as clean and efficient as possible by minimizing waste, and thereby also pushes down the costs and (already minimal) carbon footprint of our LOHC. In this video, Paola is moving the continuous synthesis installation into our new lab space, where multiple liters of LOHC are produced each day. This expansion signifies a new step on our growth path. In parallel, we are preparing our Voyex 2 installation, a de-hydrogenation unit with an output of 30-80 kW. This pilot unit is expected to be available by the end of 2024/ Q1 2025. Stay tuned for updates on our progress! #hydrogen #H2 #ZeroEmissionFuture

We know that in many ways, diesel is great. It's easy to handle, has a high energy content and it's relatively safe. We all grew up with diesel all around us. Now think about the extensive infrastructure on which diesel relies to be brought to you, practically everywhere you are. Without this infrastructure, diesel wouldn't be so attractive. Any viable alternative for diesel will have to build on an equally extensive infrastructure, and therefore only a very limited amount of solutions will make it to the zero-emission era. The ultimate strength of Voyex LOHC is the many favourable characteristics that come into play across the supply chain. Among others, it is safer than diesel, can be stored at room temperature and atmospheric pressure AND has a high energy content. One advantage of Voyex LOHC is that it allows partners across the LOHC supply chain to reuse their existing (diesel) assets, making the transition as easy and cost-effective as it can possibly get. This is one of many reasons that we insist that Voyex LOHC will be among the winners that make (it to) the zero-emission era. It's on the road! Together with its development partners IAV GmbH and Paul Nutzfahrzeuge, DEUTZ has put the first of two HyCET trucks with DEUTZ TCG 7.8 H2 hydrogen engines into operation. The first test drive went smoothly and shows that hydrogen engines are a reasonable alternative for their use in trucks. Less than two years after the start of the HyCET research project, the first truck with a DEUTZ hydrogen combustion engine will be sent out on the test track in September this year. The application in plant traffic at BMW and DEUTZ is planned for early 2025. “The fact that our hydrogen combustion engine is not only being used in stationary applications, but now also in logistics, is an important milestone on the way to a green product portfolio that is aligned with market requirements,” says Bert van Hasselt, CEO of the Green division at DEUTZ. A total of two 18-ton and two 40-ton trucks are to be equipped with hydrogen combustion engines and tested in regular operations at BMW and DEUTZ logistics. To this end, TotalEnergies is building two hydrogen filling stations in Nuremberg and Leipzig for heavy commercial vehicles, among others. HyCET stands for Hydrogen Combustion Engine Trucks and is a consortium research project led by the BMW Group, in which DEUTZ AG, DHL Freight GmbH, KEYOU GmbH, Total Energies Marketing Deutschland and the Volvo Group are involved. The project is funded with €11.3 million by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs. Learn more ➡️ https://ow.ly/apn250SkxLi

In our quest to offer zero-emission power solutions for heavy-duty applications, the maritime sector is where we can make the biggest impact. The requirements of viability for power solutions in this industry are legion but so are the environmental gains. It was therefore our pleasure to contribute to the episode ‘Ocean Smoke’ about zero-emission shipping on Dutch National television NPO2. See a snippet of our lab about 15 minutes in.
