Discover the future of cooperative aquathermal energy in the North Sea Region!
Over ons
Aquathermal energy presents a huge opportunity for sustainable heating and cooling. The project WaterWarmth develops inspiring pilots and examples that show the potential of aquathermal energy. Our goal is to help Energy Communities integrate aquathermal energy in their operations. Let's shape a more sustainable future together! This Interreg North Sea project is co-funded by the European Union. Project start date: 15th of June 2023 Project end date: 15th of September 2026 Total budget €7.997.253 Total partners: 21 partners from The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Denmark and Sweden Project description: The WaterWarmth consortium is ambitious and equipped to seize the opportunities aquathermal energy offers. We are highly motivated to create a lasting impact in the North Sea Region (NSR). Aquathermal energy (AE) uses thermal energy from water to provide sustainable H/C for buildings. Surface waters act as a huge solar collector and store heat in quantities that exceed by far the energy requirements for H/C. At present, the vast majority of people and energycommunities (ECs) are unaware of this omnipresent and readily available energy source. WaterWarmth will change this. Costs of change from gas infrastructure are high and, historically, another barrier is low-costs of fossilfuels. Additional challenges remain around: citizen participation, integration of AE in the energy system and the current built environment, environmental impact, legal and governance, business cases, and securing project (development) funds and bearing risks by ECs. Waterwarmth addresses all these key aspects in one coherent project. It works on facilitating ECs that are delivering the energy transition, and co-develop inspiring and replicable examples of cooperative AE solutions, integrated into the local context, with citizens from across theNSR. Deliverables will empower ECs to accelerate the dearly needed energy transition.

Successful first WaterWarmth Webinar!
Ever heard of aquathermal energy? It extracts heat from surface water, wastewater, and even drinking water through heat pumps! In today's webinar, EHPA shed light on the WaterWarmth (Interreg North Sea) project, developing aquathermal energy pilots across the North Sea region. From heating a 600-year-old castle to modern apartment buildings, aquathermal energy is proving that heat pumps can deliver clean heating (and cooling) in all buildings, old and new. A huge thanks to our amazing speakers for showcasing examples from the Netherlands to Sweden and diving into aquathermal energy governance at the national, regional, and municipal levels: Shanne Bouma, Andries Metz, Sebastian Baes, Nthabiseng Mohlakoana, PhD, Thomas Hoppe, Sara Brogaard. 📽️ Stay tuned for the webinar recording! Want to learn more? Discover the WaterWarmth (Interreg North Sea) project and sign up for its newsletter! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d5ZvNx3A #HeatRight #HeatPumps

Last Tuesday, we held our policy session during the European Week of Regions and Cities. Fruitful discussions were had about how local and regional authorities can empower and work together with energy communities to further the energy transition. In this fully booked session, our speakers and the audience shared their own experiences to help and inspire each other in finding the right mix of aquathermal, solar and wind energy to maximize citizen support and lower energy prices. A special thanks goes out to our speakers and panel members Morten Mejsen Westergaard, Ighor Van de Vyver, Andries Metz, Sijbe Knol, Henk de Boer and Michiel de Wit for sharing their expertise and insights on the future of the energy transition. Additionally, we want to thank the session moderator Pieter de Jong for ensuring a smooth and engaging session for all. In the aftermath of this session, we are enthusiastic to get to work with new insights and ideas and to keep inspiring other regions in Europe to develop the right mix for them! #EURegionsWeek #EnergyTransition #SustainableEnergy #GreenEnergy #AquathermalEnergy #Climate #Europe #EuropeanRegions #CitizenEngagement

Een interessant webinar van een van onze Belgische partners! Leer meer over aquathermie en wat het kan betekenen in de energietransitie!
💻 Vrijdag 11 oktober: VVSG Energieke Vrijdagen 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐞.
