It's International Day of Charity 🌎 💜 To celebrate we are recognizing one of our members and their continuous work in volunteering, Darcy Aikins. Darcy is Deputy Marketing chair of the WICT Europe board and works at Liberty Global, where employees are given 3 days PTO to volunteer every year. About volunteering Darcy says: 💬 "I am very grateful to have the opportunity to volunteer through my company, Liberty Global, where a strong emphasis is placed on giving back to the community. Through Liberty I've been able to take part in a variety of meaningful activities, from preparing packages at food banks to plastic fishing in the Amsterdam canals. I’ve also had the privilege of supporting our charity partner, Street Child, by participating in the annual Big Ride fundraising event, completing the half marathon two years in a row. One of my most rewarding experiences has been through my involvement in our employee resource group, WIN, where I organize events for young girls visiting our offices, encouraging them consider careers in technology. Volunteering has not only allowed me to contribute to my community, but it’s also given me the chance to connect with colleagues.” 🌱 Volunteering is not just about giving—it’s about growing, connecting, and inspiring others to do the same. #MemberMoments #Volunteering #Charity

On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honor the incredible volunteer work supported by WICT Network Europe’s sponsor, VodafoneZiggo, through the Vodafone Foundation. Vodafone Group Plc, a principal funder of global projects in partnership with charitable organizations and NGOs, believes in the power of #connectivity to transform lives. By leveraging technology for good, they create #sustainable solutions that can scale to impact communities across their global footprint. We're especially proud of WICT Europe board member Babet Agten, who actively supports the foundation by volunteering for the Emergency Response Instant Network Team. Volunteers from this team quickly set up mobile networks in disaster zones, helping people stay connected when it matters most. This year, the team visited the Kara Tepe refugee camp on the island of Lesvos, Greece, a critical transit point for refugees, particularly from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. In a place where #WiFi is more than a convenience, but a lifeline, the Vodafone Foundation stepped in. By providing essential connectivity through mobile networks and Wi-Fi hotspots, they enabled families to stay connected with loved ones and access vital resources, helping them navigate their new realities and build a better future. We loved seeing so much representation of the WICT Network Europe at Liberty Global's annual fundraiser #TheBigRide2024 in Belgium. 💜 The event raises funds for Liberty Global's charity partner Street Child, who work to ensure all children have access to an education. This year we had WICT members from Liberty Global and Infosys cycling, running and walking to help the cause, including our Chapter President Annemarie Koelman. If you haven’t noticed yet, the pride flag has been redesigned to create room for more inclusion and honor marginalized groups in the LGBTQ+ community! Over the years, updates are made as an homage to the past and a gesture toward the future. Today, the progress rainbow flag is a symbol of joy, pride and the persistence of the LGBTQ community in the face of discrimination and anti-LGBTQ legislation!
