WINDBASE congratulates Vattenfall and SwifterwinT on the opening of the Windpark Windplanblauw! Windplanblauw is a repowering project, where 74 turbines in the northwest corner of Flevoland have been replaced by 61 new and more powerful ones. Of these, 24 are located in the IJsselmeer. Given the dimensions of the turbines and the relatively shallow depth of the IJsselmeer, placing land turbines in the IJsselmeer proved to be the best solution. However, applying a ground foundation on water requires a fundamentally different design approach. For the 24 foundations in the IJsselmeer, WINDBASE and ABT bv, in collaboration with SwifterwinT, TU Delft, Vattenfall, Aratis, GE Vernova and Ballast Nedam, came up with a solution that takes into account aspects such as ice load, collision load, and hydraulic conditions. The amount of electricity the park now produces is equivalent to the consumption of 1 million Dutch people. That is eight times as much as in the old situation. Want to know more about our approach? Read more on https://lnkd.in/dFCTczdv We would also like to extend our congratulations to other partners who were involved in this project and collaborated with us onshore and/or nearshore: Windunie Hitachi Energy Dura Vermeer Vestas Topwind Mammoet #windplanblauw #windturbines #energytransition #windenergy

Land foundation for wind turbines in the IJsselmeer? This requires a fundamentally different design approach. Along the dike between Lelystad – Swifterbant, the view has changed remarkably in recent years: the iconic Irene Vorrink wind farm has now been replaced by 24 imposing wind turbines on the IJsselmeer. Given the size of the turbines and the relatively shallow IJsselmeer, placing land-based turbines in the IJsselmeer proved to be the best solution. To apply a land foundation on water, a fundamentally different design approach is needed; this must combine various factors that normally apply only on land or at sea. Consider aspects such as ice load, impact load, and hydraulic conditions. How did we at ABT bv and WINDBASE, in collaboration with SwifterwinT, TU Delft, Vattenfall, Aratis, GE Vernova and Ballast Nedam, arrive at this solution? Read the article by colleagues Paul Schraven, Thomas Lankreijer, and Casper Meijer in the latest edition of Land+Water. #windturbines #windfarm #energytransition #Windenergy, #WindEurope

From Europe to the Caribbean to South Africa, Windbase's wind turbine foundation designs are progressing steadily. Last week, Axel Jacobs and Stephan Toonen visited South Africa to inspect the Dassiesridge wind farm construction site in the Eastern Cape, focusing on the reinforcement of the first two wind turbine foundations. The new park, featuring fourteen Vestas V150 turbines, is initiated by EDF Renewables (South Africa), constructed by The Power Group (Power Construction (Pty) Ltd), and designed by us in close collaboration with our partner GIBB Engineering and Architecture. Next to foundation design, Windbase conducts on-site quality control and provides advisory services during execution. Axel Jacobs and Stephan Toonen were very pleased after reviewing the reinforcement: “The construction of the concrete reinforcement was of exceptional quality, matching the high standards of the design process that preceded it. Compliments to the contractor, The Power Group, for their exemplary work." Windbase extends its gratitude to all the companies involved, especially Peter Loubser from Gibb. Work in progress! Pouring concrete first wind turbine foundation of Windpark Koraal Tabak Curacao. The new park of five Vestas V150 turbines is initiated by NuKoraal Tabak, a consortium of Aqualectra Utility - Curacao Water and Power and NuCapital, Inc. Aspiravi and is constructed by MNO Vervat Curaçao B.V. Besides foundation design, Windbase is assigned as technical advisor foundation for the client and QA/QC. Quality engineer Casper Meijer was on site with the first concrete pouring: “Great to see the first steps in construction. Looking forward to seeing the project getting more shape.“ #windenergy #windturbine #renewableenergy #windpark #curacao

Reflecting on an interesting Journey to Bilbao! As we approach the Easter break, our minds are still buzzing with the memories of our exciting adventure at #WindEurope2024 in Bilbao last week. It definitely was a vibrant hub for leading companies in the wind sector for three days. Our team with Axel Jacobs, Casper Meijer, Paul Schraven and Stephan Toonen is looking back on a great experience with lots of new contacts, interesting and pleasant conversations and good presentations. As a specialist in designing onshore wind turbine foundations, we got interesting questions on our latest innovations such as data-driven foundation design, steel fiber concrete foundations and the development of two unique concrete types (geopolymer and CO2-negative concrete). With so many wind energy professionals in Europe, a long journey of opportunities is awaiting. We are convinced that when we connect and join our forces we will convert them into new successful projects. #windenergy #windturbine #windfarm #datadriven #renewableenergy

Let's connect during the WindEurope annual event in Bilbao! Our colleagues Axel Jacobs, Stephan Toonen, Paul Schraven, and Casper Meijer will be in attendance on March 20th and 21st. We are happy to discuss our latest innovations. Currently, at WindBase, we're working on various innovations, such as data-driven foundation design, steel fiber concrete foundations, and the development of two unique concrete types (geopolymer and CO2-negative concrete). ▶ If you're interested in scheduling a meeting during the event, please let us know so we can plan something. WINDBASE was created by the Dutch engineering firm ABT bv, a company with over 40 years of experience in wind energy. Our core specialty is designing wind turbine foundations. Sustainability is part of our DNA. This goes beyond the sustainable generation of energy, as to us it starts with the basis of a wind turbine. Our calculation models lead to savings on concrete and steel resulting in a minimum footprint and cost savings of 40%. #windenergy #WindEurope2024 #WindEurope

🎉 Celebrating 40 years of Windbase! From our roots as ABT bv to our new name Windbase in 2019, we've been at the forefront of wind turbine foundation engineering for four decades. We've journeyed from the earliest foundation designs for wind turbines to today's advanced sustainable solutions. It started with one of our first projects for the Newecs45 prototype wind turbine near Medemblik (1985). Back then, this was the largest wind turbine in the world with a capacity of 1MW, at a time when 50 to 80 KW was rather the standard. Over the past 40 years, the sector has developed significantly. Axel Jacobs: "We keep being the forerunner in advanced analyses allowing us to safely optimize our foundations. We are now adding data driven design: instead of presenting one solution we can now discuss multiple solutions with the client and make the impact of design choices on money and durability visible." At the end of this milestone year, let's reflect back on a few signature projects from our 40-year legacy: ▶ The Riemst windfarm, Belgium: A groundbreaking endeavor that paved the way for innovation. (monitoring program for comparison of real behaviour with advanced models) ▶ The Oostpolderdijk windfarm, the Netherlands: A milestone reflecting our commitment to sustainability and expertise. (Gravity foundation on a see dike in earthquake area and complex soil conditions) ▶ The Hartel windfarm in Rotterdam, the Netherlands: An emblematic project showcasing our evolution as leaders in wind turbine foundations. (Repowering of older wind turbines with ABT/Windbase foundation designs. Special foundation design that’s allows wind turbines at sites with very limited space) Thanks to our team and valued clients for their trust and support over the past 40 years. Here's to another 40 years of innovation and progress in sustainable energy! Merry X-mas and a energizing 2024!
