We are happy to share with you that our colleague Silvia Rolandi took part in the Internet Festival organised by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna! She gave a brilliant presentation during the panel "Le nuove generazioni del cibo e del diritto" ("The new generations of food and law"). ☕ 💻
I would like to thank the Internet Festival organizers and in particular Luca Cantone for creating such an event where academia, citizens and industry shared ideas and researches! 🛜📖🔎 An event that involves the entire city of Pisa. At the Scuola Normale Superiore I had the opportunity to delve into the intersection of the international coffee trade legislation, quality standards, and the role of digitalization. ☕️👾🖥️🛒🌱🌳 #InternetFestival #CoffeeTrade #Digitalization #Sustainability #Quality

On the first morning of The Future of Protein Production Amsterdam, taking place here in the Netherlands, Francesco Montanari from Arcadia International E.E.I.G. opened the conference with a fantastic presentation, highlighting both the progress and the hurdles facing alternative proteins. From cultured meat to microbial fermentation, there’s no doubt that these innovations hold immense potential. But, as Francesco pointed out, challenges like regulatory delays, energy consumption, and scaling are still significant barriers. He emphasized that while the EU is slowly moving forward—especially with novel food authorizations—there’s still a long way to go to match the speed of innovation. Cell-cultivated meat, for example, could offer a better environmental footprint compared to conventional beef, but scaling it up will require solving energy efficiency issues. On a more promising note, Francesco highlighted microbial fermentation and insect proteins as key players in the circular economy. Both sectors are advancing rapidly but still require more investment and infrastructure to scale. As we look ahead, the big question remains: what needs to happen to truly unlock the potential of alternative proteins across Europe? We're sure to find out over the next few days. #AlternativeProteins #FutureOfFood #Sustainability #ProteinProduction #Innovation #FPPAmsterdam

⚖ The Expropriation of Sanctioned Assets: Does Ukrainian Jurisprudence Respond to Human Rights Concerns? ⚖ The newest policy and practice note by Tamara Horbachevska, Iurii Barabash, and Olena Uvarova "The Expropriation of Sanctioned Assets: Does Ukrainian Jurisprudence Respond to Human Rights Concerns?" has been released! Part of the REBALANCE Project, it discusses the application of a sanction mechanism during martial time in Ukraine and its human rights threats. The current jurisprudence in Ukraine on the expropriation of assets of sanctioned individuals and entities into state income raises the following four key human rights concerns: 👉 duplication of the offence and punishment from national criminal law; 👉 retroactive effect of the introduced sanction; 👉 inadequate procedural safeguards for sanctioned persons; 👉 unlimited scope of persons and their assets that can be expropriated. This note argues that these significant drawbacks cannot be legitimized even in time of war. Link: https://lnkd.in/e_M_q_Hd Hashtags: #humanrights #ukraine #jurisprudence
