Ensuring Stability in a World of Software Disruptions! Last week, a faulty Microsoft software update caused significant disruptions for many users worldwide, leading to connectivity issues, slow systems, and even temporary outages of critical software applications. For many companies, this meant a disruption of their daily operations and a substantial loss of productivity. While bugs in software are unavoidable, it is remarkable that this code was rolled out to so many customers simultaneously. This includes both functional and non-functional tests, such as performance, burn-in tests, and dynamic security analysis. 🔹 Staged Roll-Outs: Even after passing all tests, our roll-out to production is staged. For example, when delivering in-vehicle software for public transport, we first deploy it to a single vehicle. Only after successfully validating that the software runs well in production do we scale up in several steps to more vehicles until the entire fleet is patched. In the Single Euro Payments Area, the SEPA Payment Account Access (SPAA) initiative is reinventing the way banks and third-party providers (TPPs) communicate. Through API standardisation, SPAA promotes innovation and improves consumer convenience while guaranteeing strong data security by enabling banks to share payment account data with TPPs safely and for a fee. At Ximedes, we help banks and PSPs create and implement standardised APIs that comply with Berlin Group standards, EBA and PSD2 laws, and SPAA specifications. This week, DB Regio Bus, VRM, and Ximedes have launched a pilot program with our Kontrollgerät on 21 buses. This innovative device allows passengers to check in using the D-Ticket barcode from their app or their D-Ticket on a VDV Chipcard. The Kontrollgerät connects to the board computer and is online, sharing real-time data—such as timestamp, bus stop, bus line, and vehicle number—with Ximedes TapConnect servers. This real-time data will be invaluable in understanding passenger travel patterns and timing. Moreover, this information equips VRT, VRM, and DB Regio Bus with the necessary data for fair revenue distribution (Einnahmeverteilung).
