What is transdisciplinary research and how can it help you? Ecological crises, social injustice, political polarization and other pressing challenges are all complex problems that don't fit into disciplinary boxes. They are better understood by engaging directly with societal stakeholders. Transdisciplinary research enables integration of scientific and non-scientific knowledge to address these challenges. Our Transdisciplinary Fieldguide is for academics, staff and graduate students committed to research that is socially relevant and engages societal actors. It is for those open and curious about new ways of working and producing knowledge.

Nice interview with On Yu (Peter) Dung about his role and inspiration in one of our Signature Projects Rethink Hydrogen. Ensuring that the future of green hydrogen is both sustainable and just, requires stakeholders to make fully informed decisions. This means considering all potential consequences. "People need a holistic mindset, where they view the issue as an integrated whole, rather than focusing on isolated parts." How can we help stakeholders develop this holistic mindset?
On Yu (Peter) Dung, a physicist, recently began a new role at Utrecht University. In this position, he won’t perform academic #research but focus on developing methods to facilitate dialogue among key players in the rapidly expanding #green #hydrogen industry. While this may seem like a surprising transition for a physicist, Dung sees it as a natural progression. "Academically and practically, I'm shifting towards the study of complex systems and tackling them. For me, the green hydrogen debate is just another example of such a system." According to Dung, ensuring that the future of green hydrogen is both sustainable and just, requires stakeholders to make fully informed decisions. This means considering all potential consequences. As he puts it, "People need a holistic mindset, where they view the issue as an integrated whole, rather than focusing on isolated parts." He emphasizes that this approach requires openness to diverse perspectives, as the green hydrogen debate is full of complexities and nuances. To make the UN's biodiversity conference effective, three things need to happen, according to Harriet Bulkeley. Initial signs are not promising, but there are some hopeful transformative changes.
Harriet Bulkeley is attending Cop16 - the UN's biodiversity conference in Cali, Colombia. Many of those present, including herself, wonder whether the promise made to “halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030” is achievable. For the meeting to be successful, a number of conditions must be met, she argues in The Conversation. https://lnkd.in/d83FA6N6 #biodiversity
