Norway has set ambitious targets for its aquaculture ingredient industry. It aims to increase the share of Ingredients produced by Norway from 8% to 40%, source 100% of ingredients from sustainable raw materials, and boost the share of novel Ingredients from 0.4% to 25%. 📊 For the past 15 years, Aker BioMarine ASA has been at the forefront of the aquaculture industry, pioneering the scaling ofa new sustainable ingredient to profitability. Today, our QRILL Aqua ingredient is a cornerstone in the creation of sustainable and high-performing feed formulas worldwide 🦐 🌍 Today, at #Arenedalsuka, together with Bente Elisabeth Torstensen (Nofima), Even Tronstad Sagebakken(Arbeiderpartiet), Robert Eriksson (Sjømatbedriftene - Norwegian Seafood Association), Olve Grotle (Høyre), ÅSE SUNDVOR (Norges Bondelag), and Edgar Skjervold (Nutrimar) our CEO Matts Johansen spent his pennies on what the government needs to do to make this happen. There are numerous initiatives, both in Norway and internationally, focused on developing new sustainable ingredients for the aquaculture industry. Drawing from Aker BioMarine ASA’s extensive experience, Matts told the audience about the critical need for large-scale data in commercial farms to validate the performance of these ingredients. Without this data, farmers are unlikely to adopt new ingredients at scale. "This costs a lot of money and takes years to populate and to be honest, significantly few novel ingredient start-ups can ever raise enough capital to afford this undertaking. The government needs to direct its R&D license scheme towards players working with these novel ingredients, such as Aker BioMarine, so novel ingredient players can finance their data population through salmon production" - CEO Matts Johansen 🙌
