A few words from Anne-Grethe Reichelt, our Head of Sales & Marketing, about Bio-Me's Skin Microbiome journey: What a remarkable journey it has been. Following a conversation with a KOL at the Microbiome Connect conference in Amsterdam in July 2022, just two months after I joined Bio-Me, I proposed the idea of exploring the Skin Microbiome. The challenge was clear: in order to justify directing our R&D efforts towards skin I needed to ensure there was sufficient market pull and an adequate number of samples ready for analysis. To my surprise, this proved to be much simpler than anticipated. A Skin Microbiome panel, utilizing our PMP technology, perfectly aligned with market needs, as we faced no challenges with host-DNA interference and required minimal DNA volumes. Collaborating with leading KOLs in the field, we aimed to develop the most effective panel to address the critical questions our clients sought to answer. All hands on deck! Within just two weeks, assays for over 60 pre-selected target taxa was completed. Then followed rigorous testing and validation, and evaluation of commercially available sampling (swabs) and extraction methods. Remarkably, less than six months after that initial KOL conversation, we were running our first client samples. This has truly been a success story. We are now on version 1.2 of our Skin Microbiome panel and continue to expand both our business and our species/sub-species portfolio.
