➡️ How do we validate our medical device and our tests? This question is asked a lot, so we decided to explain it in two infographics. Since we transition to a Class IIa medical device under MDR each individual clinical parameter/biomarker measured in both healthy controls and patients include the following key statistical components: 1️⃣ Validiity 2️⃣ Reliability 3️⃣ Reproducibility 4️⃣ Stability ❗These components are important as we need to know how a biomarker can be used, which is crucial for regulatory approval and drives further clinical adoption. PhD candidates Bjørn André Helland-Hansen, Alexander Sverstad & Solveig Jacobsen Dalbro measured these values in healthy controls and patients with the following 👁️ & 🧠 diseases: 👁️ AMD, Glaucoma, Cataract & Diabetic Retinopathy 🧠 Parkinson's Disease & Ataxia 🔜 the PhD candidates will reveal their findings and publish their clinical validation data. So stay tuned! #eyetracking #neurology #ophthalmology #biomarkers #medicaldevice #research #glaucoma #AMD #cataract #diabeticretinopathy #parkinson #ataxia

In the UK today is **National Schizophrenia Awareness Day**, we highlight the importance of eye tracking as a diagnostic tool for schizophrenia. 🧠👁️ **Schizophrenia** affects approximately 1 in 100 people, yet stigma persists due to a lack of understanding. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't mean split personality; it's a complex condition affecting thinking, emotions, and perception. Symptoms include audio hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking¹. Now, let's delve into **eye tracking** and its role in diagnosis: 1. **Eye Tracking Technology**:   - Eye-tracking tools monitor eye movements during visual tasks. They're increasingly available in research and consumer markets.   - These devices help us understand how physicians interpret medical information and make diagnostic decisions.   - By studying eye movements, we gain insights into differences between novices and experts, biases, and misinterpretations⁴. 2. **Eye Tracking and Schizophrenia**:   - People with schizophrenia exhibit poor eye tracking compared to healthy individuals.   - Electroretinography (ERG) measures retinal responses to light and shows promise in identifying those at risk⁵.   - Researchers explore eye-tracking biomarkers to aid early diagnosis and track disease progression⁸. 3. **Clinical Implications**:   - Eye tracking can enhance medical education, training, and clinical practice.   - Understanding how experts interpret visual information helps improve diagnostic skills.   - Future applications may include automating error detection, classification, and training strategies for diagnosticians⁴. Remember, raising awareness about schizophrenia is crucial. Let's continue supporting those affected by this condition! 🌟🤝 Sources: (1) National Schizophrenia Awareness Day - Rethink Mental Illness. https://lnkd.in/gaEA7skn. 🧠 **Brain Health Day: July 22** The eyes are windows to the brain. On this Brain Health Day, let's delve into the fascinating world of eye tracking and its impact on diagnostics: 1. **Precision Insights**: Eye tracking provides precise data on gaze patterns, revealing subtle abnormalities or biomarkers that may signal neurological conditions. 2. **Early Detection**: Detecting eye movement irregularities early can lead to timely intervention for brain disorders like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and MS. 3. **Objective Assessment**: Unlike subjective questionnaires, eye tracking offers an objective assessment, aiding accurate diagnoses. 4. **Telemedicine Advancements**: Eye tracking is a valuable tool for telemedicine, enabling remote monitoring of patients' brain health. Let's keep our focus sharp—both on the retina and the brain! 🌟 #BrainHealthDay #EyeTracking #NeuroOphthalmology #Biomarkers --- Feel free to share this post with your colleagues and spread awareness! 🌐👁️🗨️
