🎉We’ve raised 🎉 🙇 In our seed round of investment we have raised £610,000 via Crowdcube! Starting during the COVID-19 pandemic, our mission has always been to transform the care available to people living with kidney disease. This seed round is more than just capital – it’s validation that innovation in kidney care is essential, and we’re honoured to lead the charge with the backing of the kidney community. With this funding, Kidney Beam is committed to expanding our reach, building partnerships, and enhancing our platform to provide the best possible support to those living with kidney disease. As two female co-founders, we are proud to have overcome the challenges that many female-led businesses face when securing funding. In a market where 86% of capital went to male-led businesses in the first half of 2024 and only 1.8% to solely female-led ventures, our achievement underscores the strength of our mission and the incredible support from our partners. Without the kidney community we would not be here today so a special thanks to them. We’d also like to say thanks to the kidney community who have supported us, been there since the beginning and Kidney Research UK as our lead investor for their steadfast support. We are also hugely grateful to the National Kidney Federation (NFK), who have played an instrumental role in our journey from the beginning, and to the Sheffield Area Kidney Association (SAKA) for joining us as a key strategic investor and partner. Together, we are committed to delivering better health outcomes for those living with kidney disease. Thank you to the Kidney Beam team, past and present, and to everyone who has supported us on this journey. Together, we are making a difference. Prof Sharlene Greenwood and Katie Bell 💙

Exciting to see digital health interventions being part of these conversations. At Kidney Beam, we're committed to helping as many people as possible who are living with kidney disease. Being part of these conversations is key to our mission of delivering scalable and impactful solutions that truly make a difference in their lives.

Last week I was delighted to be part of the KDIGO controversies conference on the relationship between obesity and CKD. Such important discussions were had and consensus reached on important areas for management and further research. As the only physiotherapist/exercise professional invited to the conference, I was particularly pleased to fly the flag for lifestyle therapy and exercise- based rehabilitation as part of the essential management of obesity for people living with CKD. Digital health interventions like Kidney Beam will hopefully provide opportunities for scalable weight management interventions. I certainly thoroughly enjoyed the conference, catching up with old friends like the lovely Helen MacLaughlin and making new friends over the weekend.

💙 Huge shoutout to Pooja Schmill (MBPsS) for her amazing research, which will help in bringing us closer to our mission of helping as many as people as possible living with kidney disease. 📖 This research will enable us to further personalise our programmes, ensuring we meet the unique needs of those using our platform. It’s thanks to our technology that we're able to achieve this at scale. Proud of this progress and what it means for the kidney health community.

👏 We're proud to support Kidney Research UK's call to action. We believe everyone deserves a fair chance at good kidney care. At Kidney Beam, we know how vital mental health support is for those living with kidney disease. Our community is here to offer that support every step of the way. 💪It's #TimeToAct #KidneyBeam #HealthTech #HealthTech
It is time to act. We are urgently calling for action to address the social and economic inequalities that put certain individuals at a higher risk of kidney disease. These inequalities can prevent patients from receiving the appropriate care and treatment they desperately need. In our new report, Time To Act: A New Review of Kidney Health Inequalities, we highlight some alarming facts and statistics. Inequalities relating to age, sex, education, location, and lack of wealth persist and continue to impact and hinder kidney patients. We will be sharing some of these with you over the next few weeks. It is essential that we recognise and take urgent action to eliminate these obstacles. Everyone deserves a fair chance at good kidney health. You can read the full or summarised report here: https://bit.ly/3xWLseB Are you impacted by kidney health inequalities? We would love to hear your voice in the comments. 👇
