Mowi is at the forefront of technological advancements in aquaculture, and we are leading the way in sustainable salmon farming and food production. Smart Farming is happening all across Mowi and consists of three main elements that mutually reinforce each other to push our farming operations into the digital age. 1. Remote feeding operations help optimise feeding and improve biological performance. 2. Advanced imaging technology, sensors, and AI allow real-time biomass monitoring, automatic lice counting, and tracking of fish welfare. 3. MOWInsight, our cutting-edge business intelligence platform, delivers real-time data from both internal and external sources. This ensures that decisions are made promptly and based on the most current insights. Smart Farming is an integral part of our future, and we're incredibly proud of our Research and Development teams, who are helping us lead the Blue Revolution.

The Mowi 2024 Q2 report is now available, highlighting a strong operational second quarter for Mowi. This was driven by good operations across all business areas, including seasonal record-high growth in sea and reduced farming cost. Ivan Vindheim, CEO of Mowi, said: “Mowi harvested a record 110,000 tonnes of salmon in the second quarter. At the same time our biomass in sea was at an all-time high level at the end of the quarter, and up by 9.4% from last year. This is impressive and shows that Mowi is well on track to deliver on our volume guidance of a milestone 500,000 tonnes this year. As recently as 2018 Mowi harvested 375,000 tonnes of salmon". At Mowi, the health and welfare of our salmon is our top priority. Our post-smolt facilities are not just a part of our operations but a key element in our commitment to enhancing fish health and welfare. By keeping our salmon at our freshwater sites for longer, we reduce the time our salmon spend at sea. By doing this, we can: ✅ Create a larger and more robust smolt ✅ Increase survival rates ✅ Reduce exposure to sea lice ✅ Reduce susceptibility to disease We continuously seek ways to improve and innovate to ensure that our fish grow and thrive under the best possible conditions.

Our salmon’s life cycle mirrors a wild salmon’s journey, spending the first part of their life growing in freshwater. Most of our freshwater use in our business comes from the initial life-stage production of salmon. Thanks to our industry-leading RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems) facilities, this freshwater withdrawal is returned to its source almost in its entirety, reducing our water consumption significantly. Although we do not farm in countries with freshwater scarcity, we still focus our efforts and resources on freshwater efficiency at our freshwater farming units, feed, and processing plants. Circularity is a priority for Mowi, and we have strict policies in place to reduce and reuse freshwater. By 2025, we aim to achieve a 10% reduction in freshwater use to make our business as sustainable as possible.
