It's great to see a stronger focus on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children, a result of Ofsted's "Big Listen." The introduction of a new criterion for inclusion in the report card, focussing on how schools support these students, is indeed a positive step and addresses the needs of children who require additional support.
An Ofsted scorecard approach that values technological interventions in supporting absent or disadvantaged students aligns well with the progressive efforts being made in education today.
The role of assistive technologies, like the AV1 robots, in bridging the gap for absent students is a fantastic example of how innovation can transform educational experiences. We know that effective assistive technologies are impressive and were informed by a school that an Ofsted inspector, when shown an AV1 in operation, said in their highly favourable report “they even use robots…real robots!”
The new criterion is a promising development that could encourage more schools to adopt similar technologies, ensuring that all students, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
