Many clinics have found great success in creating videos to help prepare patients for their upcoming MRI scans. A video that guides patients through the MRI journey allows them to visualize what will happen and understand the reasons behind it. When you create a video specific to your clinic, patients are more likely to feel familiar and at ease when they arrive, leading to a calmer experience. The biggest challenge is often the cost of production. However, with today's technology, most of us carry 4K cameras in our pockets—our smartphones. All that's needed is some guidance on how to make the most of these tools. To help you get started, we've created an inspirational video that shows how you can produce an effective patient preparation video on a low budget. To learn more about how you and your clinic can reduce anxiety during MRI scans, visit our free online course here: https://lnkd.in/eshJdcvw

We have seen a steady increase in questions about memory fMRI over recent years. The literature suggests there is potential for memory fMRI to be of benefit for pre-surgical mapping particularly in epilepsy patients, but finding a reliable and reproducible paradigm has been a challenge for many. We were therefore very pleased to see a recent publication by our customers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK, reporting results of a 7.5 year initiative that employed a Home Town Walk paradigm. They found that with adequate patient preparation, the paradigm was reliable enough to lateralize visuospatial memory function consistently. We look forward to seeing how this can impact patient care and outcomes in drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy. Read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/eF9Mnge3

We are delighted to share the success of our recent comprehensive fMRI training session at Všeobecná fakultní nemocnice v Praze. In collaboration with our partners at Saegeling, we provided a two-day training for our customer, as they are now equipped with the NNL fMRI Essentials Package as well as the VisualSystem HD. Using these NNL devices our customer aims to enhance their research and clinical fMRI services. The training consisted of one day dedicated to the fMRI Essentials Package and another day focused on the VisualSystem HD. The photos below illustrate the integration of different NNL components with third-party products, such as Arrington ViewPoint. This enables users to deliver reliable and synchronized stimuli while tracking subjects' eye movements during fMRI data acquisition. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved, especially Prof. Vaněčková, Dr. Filip, and our dedicated colleagues at Saegeling Medizintechnik and Saegeling Medizintechnik CZ for their outstanding work and support. We look forward to seeing the future contributions our customer will make using their new NNL systems.

Are you using Cerebrovascular Reactivity (CVR) mapping within your fMRI service? CVR mapping can be a useful quality control measure in fMRI to identify brain regions with neurovascular uncoupling by assessing the response of cerebral blood vessels throughout the brain. These maps are used to identify areas of non-viable cortex caused by pathology, thus highlighting the potential for false negative results from subsequent fMRI experiments. Our stimulus presentation software, nordicAktiva, includes a dedicated breath-hold paradigm specifically designed for conducting CVR assessments. In addition, we have incorporated a CVR analysis tool into our new post-processing software, nordicMEDiVA. The tool is not yet available for clinical use, but is part of a multi-year grant project with Dr. Ho-Ling Anthony Liu and his team at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center to implement resting-state (rs) fMRI and CVR mapping.  From NNL's side, Dr. Cathy Elsinger, our US Managing Director, collaborates as the Co-PI in this translational research grant project funded by NIH/NCI. The end goal of the project is to provide rsfMRI and CVR mapping functionalities that are ready for FDA submission. For further reading, here are two articles that explore the use of CVR in patients with tumors and epilepsy: https://lnkd.in/eiFZhPmk https://lnkd.in/e2ZmuyJj
