🌿 How can different actors take positive action for biodiversity? What are the concrete differences between market/non-market and global/local interventions for sustainable transformation? These were the key questions we explored at our RAINFOREST workshop, where participants engaged in deep discussions to co-produce sustainable pathways for transformation. 🌎✨ A huge thank you to all the participants who brought their expertise, insights, and enthusiasm to the table! Your contributions added immense value to our collective understanding. Stay tuned for our upcoming outputs, where we will share the key takeaways and results from this collaborative exchange. 🌱🔍 #Sustainability #Biodiversity #Transformation #RAINFOREST

The potentially disappeared fraction of species (PDF) and loss in mean species abundance (MSA) are commonly used biodiversity impact indicators in environmental footprint assessments. In this study, we explored if and how losses in MSA are related to PDF based on simulations of virtual species communities and empirical species community data. We found a significant positive, but also uncertain relationship between PDF and MSA loss, indicating that the two indicators can provide complementary information on biodiversity impacts. Aidin Niamir and I, on behalf of Senckenberg Nature Research, attended the CBD #COP16Resumed last week, which was hosted by FAO in the historic city of Rome. After the first part of the #COP16Colombia, held in autumn 2024 in Cali, left important decisions pending due to a loss of quorum during challenging negotiations, several key decisions were adopted after intensive negotiations this time: - Monitoring Framework for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) - Mechanisms for Planning, Monitoring, Reporting and Review (PMRR) - Financial Mechanism & Resource Mobilisation - Cooperation with Other Conventions & International Organisations This outcome gives hope that we can take crucial steps forward in global #biodiversity action to achieve #PeaceWithNature RainforestHEU IPBES UN Biodiversity

EXIOBASE 3.9.4 available @ https://lnkd.in/gr4EwYK5 1. Major updates to timeliness: EXIOBASE will now be updated annually. EXIOBASE 3.9.4 includes a major update of all data to 2020, and the upcoming 3.10 will have updates to 2022, and nowcasts to 2024. 2. Supply & Use Tables: Updated data based on the official SUT tables and improved SUT balancing for better accuracy. 3. Emissions: Major update to the integration of combustion emissions which results in more reliable emissions factors, as well as an update to the process emission dataset. We now produce derived Scope 1,2,3 emissions factors consistent with the GHG protocol in a readily useable format. 4. Materials, Land & Employment: Updated to latest available data. #EXIOBASE #EnvironmentalAccounting #GHG #CarbonFootprint #Scope3 #CSRD #SustainableDevelopment #Sustainability #DataScience #Zenodo With the increased uptake in a wide range of environmental and economic applications, we are seeking to provide more robust, reliable and updated data for emissions and nature accounting. The heartbeat of a healthy planet lies in preserving its biodiversity. But still: 🟣 1 million of the world’s estimated 8 million species of plants and animals are threatened with extinction. 🟣 Human actions have significantly altered 75% of the Earth's land surface. 🟣 More than 85% of wetlands present in 1700 had been lost by 2000. IPBES was established in 2012 to address the growing global challenges of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. The independent intergovernmental body provides policymakers with scientific assessments of the state of biodiversity and ecosystems. #IPBES11 in Windhoek, Namibia begins today. 16 #HorizonEU projects that deliver scientific knowledge, solutions, and case studies on transformative change will be involved as authors or reviewers of the IPBES Transformative Change assessment. David Leclere, Martin Dorber, and Larissa N. represented RainforestHEU at the Global Land Programme’s 5th Open Science Meeting #GLPOSM5 on “Pathways to Sustainable and Just Land Systems” in the vibrant city of #Oaxaca, Mexico. This week was rich in scientific and cultural learning and exchange, with Oaxaca being a place where #indigenouscultures play a strong role. David Leclere hosted a session on “Models and scenarios for just and equitable land use pathways towards sustainable futures for nature, climate and people”, in which Larissa Nowak presented her work for the Rainforest project on “Effort sharing towards biodiversity targets under contrasting distributional justice principles”. The session brought together a great group of speakers and an engaged audience who lively discussed the session topic from diverse angles. Moreover, Martin Dorber presented his work on “How does life cycle assessment help to address biodiversity impacts? State-of-the-art and global supply chain applications” in a well-attended session on #biodiversityindicators for agriculture-driven impacts. Keep your eyes on the GLP homepage, where videos and more from the conference will be published. #modelsandscenarios #justice #biodiversitytargets #LCA Senckenberg Nature Research International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) Industrial Ecology NTNU
