We are architects who code, devoted to creating custom tools and automations for your needs.

Om oss

We are a software company employing architects and engineers who build better tools for your projects and processes. Our mission is to bridge the gap between those who make and those who use software. The AEC industry will never achieve its true digital potential until architects, engineers, and contractors start learning to code. For too long, we have handed over software development to IT companies that have little or no understanding of the challenges of our design and construction processes. At the same time, this has caused us to completely lose ownership as drivers of digital innovation. Reope is part of the international Bad Monkeys network of companies and individuals, spanning over three continents from Los Angeles to Brisbane. We collaborate on several projects and combine our skills and experience when needed.

They dove into the future of AEC software, and trust us, it’s a must-read! Here’s a quick peek: 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝘃𝘀. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗽: Many design softwares shift from desktop to web-based tools, architects and engineers should expect quicker iterations from web-based solutions than what we have been used to getting from our desktop-based software. 𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝘀. 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: AI can handle the boring stuff, but the creative decisions? That’s still the responsibility of humans. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: New tools are reshaping how we work together, and balancing control is a key consideration. Oh, and the audience asked a fun question: What animal is your software? Read the blog post here to learn the answer: https://lnkd.in/djA78xta #Innovation #AI #Architecture #technology

𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘀! It was great to see the brilliant Alfonso from Heatherwick Studios take the stage at Autodesk University. He pulled back the curtain on their approach to BIM – and we’re both honored and proud to have played a part in their journey. Heatherwick Studios is all about pushing creative boundaries, and we’ve with them for a few years by now, helping solve the tricky problems that come with bold ideas and visionary projects. Here are some of the things we've done together over the years: 𝗜𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆? With complex projects, managing quality control can feel like an impossible game of whack-a-mole. 𝗕𝗜𝗠 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗲 brings order to the chaos with a visual overview that makes QA/QC across multiple models effortless, transforming what was once overwhelming into something beautifully manageable. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻? Let’s face it – documentation is often the beast lurking in every creative project. Time-consuming, relentless, and sometimes downright tedious. But with 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘀, we’ve worked to tame the beast, streamlining the process so Heatherwick’s team can spend less time trapped in the mundane. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀? Collaboration should be inclusive. Including non-Revit users in the review process is crucial, but it’s often a headache. 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗣𝗶𝗻 – our 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁-𝘁𝗼-𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 – has opened up the design conversation for Heatherwick. More voices, more insights, more creativity. No more barriers. If you’re attending Autodesk University and your team is facing similar challenges – or you just want to explore new ways to elevate your workflow – our CEO will be waiting in Room 6A on Thursday morning. Come and chat with us about how custom tools can improve your projects, cut through the clutter, and unleash your creative potential. A huge thank you to Alfonso and the entire Heatherwick Studios team for trusting us as partners in your remarkable journey. We can’t wait to keep building, exploring, and transforming the AEC world – together. #AutodeskUniversity #BIM #Innovation #Architecture #BreakingBoundaries #CustomTools #CreativePotential #Collaboration

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭? During my talk at Autodesk University this year I'll spend some time on different #data types we can use to improve our #design #decisions. Is there a point to leverage synthetic data? Is generic real-world data good enough, or do we need real-world data unique to our firm? Let's have a look at these three approaches for a design desicion: 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 I could very easily generate a bunch of images leveraging GenAI to get a small glimpse into the patterns that these statistical models have found. I could let this guide my design and design the most likely image of the building I'm working on. I could pick one of these and start iterating on it leveraging my expertise as an engineer and get to something that looks like it could be built. It would still be an image, not a description of how to build something. To someone outside our industry this might seem like a minor detail, but visualization is a tiny part of the design process when it comes to creating a new building. 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 With some more effort I could look for patterns in real world generic data. I could travel to relevant buildings and document the design with my notebook and camera. Or I can do the less carbon intensive approach and take a stroll on Google Maps or virtual tours and look at other relevant buildings though my computer screen. A combination of both could be useful. 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 With a bit more effort I could look for patterns in real world data that's unique to my firm. I could extract data from the design models made in software like Revit and organize this with the millions of pfds from past designs to find patterns. This would help me make design decisions that are coherent with the designs of the past, but it might also inspire me to design something new if I see that my design adheres too strongly to something my firm has already done. For some design decisions it will be important to leverage my firm's unique data, while for others I'll do just fine with generic real world data.  The implications of using generic data is that everyone can use the same data and so this part of the process is likely to become commoditized and work requiring only this data will be won on price alone. Not great for your business if you're behind the curve. However, in the long term the playing field will even out. In the long term it will be the solutions built on data unique to your firm that will create competitive advantage. So, what are the design decisions where you need unique data from your firm to make the best decision? There is no easy answer, but if you start thinking and working on this now you'll be ahead of most firms in the industry! #technology #innovation #aec

I'm super excited to be invited to give a talk on this during this year's Autodesk University conference in San Diego in October! With software from the field of AI giving architects and engineers amazing tools and analysis we must not forget that human judgment is still at the heart of great design decisions. For example we need humans to make judgments on the type of data to inform our design decisions, how to value different analyses and what findings to implement. Is there a point to leverage synthetic data? Is generic real-world data good enough, or do we need real-world data unique to our firm? Can’t wait to dive into this at Autodesk University! Are you going! Send me a message here on LinkedIn and let's meet up! Here's a link to the session: https://lnkd.in/dwtjaaA9

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐈? My take on this is that you need to start with the decision you want to improve. The recent development in AI is revolutionizing analysis, but it doesn't replace human judgment in decision making. When we design a building there are thousands, sometimes millions, of design decisions to be made. What fire resistance rating is required for this door? Should we transfer the forces from the snow on the roof through load-bearing walls or columns? How much airflow do we need for this hallway? How can we fit all the pipes and ducts in this vertical shaft? The thing we need to ask ourselves is where it would be most valuable to have a near-perfect prediction. This is where we should explore if we can make use of software leveraging the developments in the field of AI. We can look at the data that might help us, we can look for patterns in that data and we can take care not to use this technology for the wrong tasks. However, all that comes later. The key thing though is to start with the decision. #ai #technology #innovation #archtiecture #engineering #decisionmaking #desicion

𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 At our Rebels of the AEC event, we got to enjoy a conversation between Grasshopper Genius Thomas and Dynamo Legend Dimitar. Dimitar’s journey started with the frustration of repeating the same manual tasks over and over. Back in 2014, when Dimitar realized he’d run out of pre-built nodes in Dynamo, he started creating his own using Python. This was the beginning of a path that led to the constellation Bad Monkeys, later to Reope now working for Autodesk on Autodesk Dynamo itself. The mission? To help others escape the grind of repetitive tasks and unlock the creativity that drives innovation. Three things to consider when it comes to escaping the grind of repetitive tasks: 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 Many architects and engineers shy away from scripting and automation, but Dimitar and Thomas reminded us that it’s not as hard as it seems. In fact, starting small and experimenting with existing tools like Dynamo and Grasshopper can already bring huge gains to your workflow. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 – 𝐎𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐓𝐨 𝐃𝐨 𝐈𝐭  Don’t accept the tools you’ve been given if they don’t work for you. Whether it’s by creating your own scripts or teaming up with someone who can, it’s time to stop wasting your talent on boring tasks. Rebel against software that doesn’t align with your design process and take control of your workflow! 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 One of the most powerful messages from the conversation was the importance of collaboration. Whether it’s on forums or within your company, building a community around the tools you make and use is key to growth. We learn faster and innovate better when we share knowledge and help each other out. The conversation served as a reminder that, with a bit of curiosity and determination, we can all find better ways to work. We don’t have to accept slow, inefficient processes – we can create something better together. A huge thanks to Dimitar for sharing his journey and to Thomas for guiding the story and to all the rebels who joined us at the event. Let’s keep building, experimenting, and creating a better future for the AEC industry! #technology #innovation #aec #architecture #engineering #Dynamo

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐄𝐂 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲? At our recent "Rebels of the AEC" event, we talked about what it means to rebel in our industry. We looked to iconic rebels from history for inspiration: 🎻 Mozart rebelled against the norms of classical music, creating compositions that changed the world of sound. ☀ Galileo challenged the world’s view of the universe, proving it wrong and revolutionizing science. 🚌 Rosa Parks defied injustice with a simple, yet profound act of courage by taking a seat on the bus, sparking a movement. 🧥 Patagonia continues to rebel against a business world lacking purpose, putting sustainability and ethics at the heart of their mission. And ofcourse from our brilliant founder Havard who's quote "what a f****** waste of talent" lives with us! Like them, we’re rebelling against the waste of talent in architecture, engineering, and construction. We refuse to accept an industry that keeps brilliant minds trapped in outdated processes. A huge thank you to all the rebels who joined us at the event! Together, we’ll continue to challenge the status quo, break free from inefficient systems, and redefine what’s possible in the built environment! #event #aec #technology #innovation #architecture #engineering #construction
