  • How do helicopters fit into offshore wind O&M? 🚁 Crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and service operation vessels (SOVs) remain the backbone of offshore wind O&M. But as the U.S. offshore wind industry expands, the need for flexible and efficient logistics is driving a shift - bringing helicopters into the mix. With the ability to rapidly transport technicians and cargo, helicopters offer a complementary solution for long-distance or urgent maintenance tasks, helping reduce downtime. At the same time, their integration adds complexity to planning, requiring advanced scheduling and simulation technology to optimize operations across multiple transport modes. This article, authored by Ole-Erik Endrerud, Founder & CPO of Shoreline Wind, is published in North American Clean Energy Magazine, exploring the evolving role of helicopters in offshore O&M. • Defects Happen - Then What? The Wind Industry’s Silent Problem Wind turbines are built to last, but defects happen. And when they do, O&M teams often face a fragmented process - manual logs, disconnected work orders, and delayed repairs leading to unnecessary downtime. 🔎 The Problem? Many teams still rely on spreadsheets, emails, or messaging apps to track and resolve defects. This slows down response times, increases costs, and reduces efficiency. 💡 The Solution? A fully integrated defect management system that connects defect logging, work orders, and condition monitoring in one seamless workflow. As turbine fleets grow and aging assets demand more attention, improving defect tracking isn’t just an upgrade - it’s a necessity. The shift to digital defect management can cut unplanned maintenance costs by up to 30%, ensuring wind farms operate at peak efficiency. It’s time to move beyond spreadsheets and transform your defect management strategy. 📖 Read the full article here: https://hubs.ly/Q0367JsT0 #WindEnergy #WindPower #Operations #Maintenance

Since moving to the US from Norway, I’ve seen firsthand how the sentiment around wind energy is under pressure. The industry is at a crossroads, and I’m glad to have been able to share my insights on this in a recent report on supply chain challenges for offshore wind. Rising costs, tight margins, and shifting political and economic priorities are putting immense pressure on the supply chain, making it more important than ever to adapt strategically. In the report, I highlight how 40% of a turbine’s value in offshore wind is created internally by OEMs, compared to the automotive sector, where less than 10% is created in-house, with the rest handled by highly-skilled subcontractors. This example signals the need for greater collaboration with the supply chain to unlock efficiency, innovation, and long-term resilience. The solution isn’t clear, but focusing on core strengths is essential for driving profitability. When companies concentrate on what they do best, they help build a collaborative ecosystem that can tackle these challenges more effectively. I’m also glad to share the stage with other industry experts in the report, including Julian Brown from SENSEWind, Rob Gilbert from Baringa, and Lizet R. Ramirez from WindEurope, who offer valuable perspectives on addressing supply chain challenges. While the challenges are real, I believe focusing on specialization, collaboration, and long-term strategies gives us a way forward. Get Shoreline Wind’s report here https://hubs.ly/Q0342h5R0
