  • Do you know Clarence Hare? One of the fascinating stories shared in Scott's 'Discovery' Hut Virtual Reality Experience, is that of the young New Zealander who became Scott's assistant steward. Hare boarded 'Discovery' at the port of Lyttelton, New Zealand where the ship stopped to pick up the prefabricated hut they would erect at Hut Point, and to collect extra provisions. The virtual reality experience brings the hut to life and Hare's diary entry within the experience records pride in his country (New Zealand farmers provided sheep for the expedition) and the pleasure of a Sunday roast far from home. You can even see two mutton carcasses that remain inside the hut, conserved by the Trust. The Trust’s Inspiring Explorers Education™ team travel around New Zealand to bring our virtual reality experiences to schools, community groups, public venues, and festivals. Book here: https://lnkd.in/gWtFmhQ9 Thanks to Inspiring Explorers™ Fund donors, a grant from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage Regeneration Fund, developer Staples VR and logistics partner Antarctica New Zealand for making this experience possible. 📸 Mutton carcasses in Scott's 'Discovery' Hut Virtual Reality Experience ©StaplesVR/AHT. #discover #conserve #inspire #explore #discoveryhutvr #antarctica #virtualreality

  • 👍 Visiting the Antarctic explorer bases cared for by the Trust isn't easy and that's why we create digital experiences, so that people can step inside these huts, virtually. Scotts 'Discovery' Hut Virtual Reality Experience was created in partnership with StaplesVR, a New Zealand based provider of augmented and virtual reality training and experiences. Developed using LiDar and photogrammetry data, the team at StaplesVR spent over 1,100 hours painstakingly modelling every aspect to ensure that the heritage and significance of the building and the artefacts within, have been accurately captured. Our Inspiring Explorers Education™ team travel around New Zealand to bring our virtual reality experiences to schools, community groups, public venues, and festivals.
