Through Concrete NZ the New Zealand cement and concrete industry has published its second Sustainability Report, reinforcing its commitment to decarbonisation and resilience. Tracking progress since the 2021-2022 baseline, the 2023 report highlights a 6% reduction in direct and electricity-related CO₂ emissions, a 48% increase in Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) use, and continued investment in low-carbon cement innovations. For the first time, the report includes reinforcing steel processors, expanding industry-wide sustainability data and strengthening accountability. Aligned with Concrete NZ’s Net-Zero Carbon Roadmap, the report provides a clear path towards a 44% emissions reduction by 2030 and net-zero concrete by 2050. Collaboration is key. Engineers, designers, and contractors are encouraged to integrate sustainable practices and support industry-wide decarbonisation efforts.
