Our first SILVER award of the night goes to Holmes Aus & NZ  for the Omāroro Reservoir project for its client Wellington Water!      The 35 million-litre reservoir has doubled the drinking water storage capacity of Wellington's CBD and eastern suburbs, making the capital city’s water supply more resilient to potential interruption and disaster.      Holmes Aus & NZ was engaged by HEB Construction to provide an innovative and cost-effective alternative design, and the result is a reservoir that will slide and move in a big earthquake.     Holmes is recognised for its innovative approach, which saved $9 million dollars and had the reservoir operating a year earlier than planned.    A win-win by all accounts, congrats team!      #aceawards2024

Earlier this week Joe Wise, our Winning Work Manager, joined a CCNZ Auckland Branch panel helping contracting organisations understand and develop great tenders. His top tip? Take the time to form relationships. The industry runs on relationships - in fact, all of Aotearoa does. We all know this, but it can be easy to forget when you’re busy keeping your business moving. Those meetings, coffees, and site visits are time well spent though, and if you’re not asking your clients, partners, and suppliers how you can support them, you can be sure your competitors are! 👋 #winningwork #tendering #relationshipbuilding

Piling is progressing well at Te Whau Pathway. When complete, the pathway will follow the edge of the Whau River, linking 33 parks, reserves, esplanades, sports parks, and roads, and connecting communities in Green Bay, Avondale, New Lynn, Kelston, Glendene, and Te Atatū South. We’re currently building the North Western Cycleway to Roberts Road Connection in Te Atatū South, for client Auckland Council, in collaboration with Whau & Henderson Massey Local Boards, Te Kawerau a Maki, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, and Te Whau Pathway Environmental Trust. Piling is a huge part of this mahi, with 246 piles to drive on this 920 m-long section of boardwalk! https://lnkd.in/gSxPHe9r #piling #construction #publicinfrastructure

We’ve landed six 45T super-tee beams on the Flat Bush Stream Crossing. Despite having to deliver most of our work from the abutment areas, the teams’ planning has seen them reach this milestone within just one month of being on-site. The site is in a subdivision, and collaborating with our client Fletcher Living enables other works to proceed around the bridge structure. We installed handrails, edge formwork, and services before landing the beams, eliminating the risk of doing so at height. Our next milestones will be pouring the bridge deck, building the approach retaining walls, and installing the bridge barriers. Stay tuned! #safety #innovation #constructionmilestone

We had a great time at the Smart Christchurch Innovation Expo last week. A Christchurch City Council initiative, the expo celebrated resilience, creativity, and collaboration. We joined the Council's City Streets booth, sharing our new surfacing products and AI-enabled footpath scooter. We’re using this to capture, analyse, and record data on footpath conditions around Christchurch. This information is then used to prioritise areas for footpath renewal, to keep the city’s footpaths safe and accessible for everyone 🚶♀️🦼🚲 Here’s Carol Ma, our National Maintenance Assets Lead, taking it for a spin #innovation #surfacing #safety #accessability Nicholas Brewer Johann van Staden

It’s always great to hear which aspects of our projects resonate with our community members. We’re committed to protecting our taonga species during delivery. After all, they were here first! Before and during this mahi, we worked with Hamilton City Council and @Ecology NZ to survey for pekapeka (bats), manu (birds), mokomoko (lizards), tuna (eels), koura, and mudfish. Those found in the area were captured and safely rehomed nearby. Now that we’ve finished building and the native planting is maturing, we expect the area to be home to these species once again #community #infrastructure #environmental

On a gorgeous fathers day morning (abid happy fathers day to a those fathers out there) I went to check out Kirikiriroa-Hamilton's newest attraction, Te Ara Pekapeka Bridge, surrounding walkways and reserves on the Peacocke side of the bridge. After years of planning, consultation and construction, it was fantastic to this project finally completed. I live very locally and have not only seen the construction, but also the changing landscape of Cobham Drive and Wairere Drive being altered and weaved together harmoniously- it has been quite the spectacle. Now onto the bridge itself, as a near- graduating environmental planning student (and self founded environmental nerd). I found it very fascinating to see the design and distinctive 'rusty' colouration of the ironwork work so well! The pilliar on the southern bank was deigned with significant input from local Mana whenu and plays an important role in protecting Pekapeka bats that inhabit this part of the Waikato Awa corridor. Secondly, as you might of guessed from my posts and reposts on here.. I am bit of a stormwater nerd. To see the 'natural' stream bed design of the stormwater outfall really put a smile on my face. It not only reduces erosion but helps to support ecology and reduce water velocities during high volumes of stormwater discharge. It looks awesome and a perfect example of a nature based solution 🏞. Next, we have Te Repo Reserve which has covered benches and bike stands. This is a great example of combining local green space providing amenity to future local residents and visitors alike, but also providing active stormwater treatment. Then we have the pedestrian walkways and cycleways separate from the vehicle carriageway, this is great to see and both will hopefully see many wheels and shoes upon them as the new suburb of Amberfield begins to flourish. My final thoughts, this is an exciting time for Kirikiriroa-Hamilton and shows that good things really do take time. This project demonstrates good quality planning and putting multi-model transport options first. I take my hats to all those involved in bringing this project to life Hamilton City Council, Waikato-Tainui, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi , HEB Construction Alas Kirikiriroa-Hamilton's newest grand infrastructure, people and environment focused development is here. I highly recommend you take a stroll and see it for yourself! #Te Ara Pekapeka Bridge #Peacocke #Infrastructure #bridge #urban planning #environmental planning #nature-based solutions #sustainable stormwater management

Congratulations on the appointment of Stephanie Kirk and Dr. Chris Wilcox to the Board of Directors of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) - Australasia. The IECA, representing over 52 countries, is a leading organisation in the erosion and sediment control industry. It provides vital education, resources, and networking opportunities for professionals in the field. Sedimentation from erosion is a significant environmental concern, particularly in construction and earthworks projects. As industry professionals, we have a responsibility to recognise and minimise these impacts on our waterways and ecosystems. HEB Construction has been a long-standing supporter of the IECA and their vital role in advancing environmental good practices, championing sustainable land management and erosion control initiatives. We commend the invaluable work they do to protect our natural resources for future generations. Steph and Chris were voted to the board by their peers in the industry and will begin their tenure in October. We look forward to hearing from them both on their contributions to the IECA and the broader erosion control community. 👍 https://lnkd.in/gnMw7kbt

IECA Australasia would like to congratulate Dallas Frazier on being re-elected to the Chapter Board and to congratulate and welcome Stephanie Kirk and Chris Wilcox to the Chapter Board.  Dallas, Stephanie and Chris will officially take up their positions at the AGM in October for a 3-year term. Thank you to all candidates who threw their hats in the ring and to everyone who voted in the election. Your involvement ensures IECA remains a member-driven organisation.
