Auckland’s waterfront is home to a vibrant display of public artworks, suitable for all ages. Explore it via self-guided Art Walk around Wynyard Quarter? Māori artists in collaboration with mana whenua have collaborated on a number of mahi toi (art works) across the waterfront. From traditional Māori weaving and carving, to sculpture and murals, Eke Panuku has been working with mana whenua to elevate and showcase māoritoi across the waterfront so that tangata whenua can see themselves and their culture reflectedin the landscape. Creating amazing places throughout Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.
About us
Eke Panuku Development Auckland is Auckland Council’s urban regeneration agency. We manage a $3 billion portfolio of land and buildings owned by the council, looking for ways for these assets to work harder for the city. We are not developers ourselves but we act as a catalyst for smart partnerships. We work with the community, local boards, private sector and other government agencies to deliver stronger neighbourhoods where affordable housing, communities, business and transport are well planned and sustainable. From small projects that refresh a site or building to major transformations of town centres or neighbourhoods, our goal is always the same: creating amazing places throughout Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland .

We are excited to announce that Fiona Knox, Priority Location Director, City Centre Major Projects and Adrian Pettit, one of our Mana Whenua partners from Te Ākitai Waiohua will be speaking later this month at the IAP2 New Zealand Symposium. They will be sharing details on the collective mahi, process and learnings from the engagement approach for Te Ara Tukutuku. Located on the northern point of Wynyard Quarter, this project will deliver the largest new open space in the city centre in 100 years. Key to the public realm design and engagement is the holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of whenua (land), moana (ocean), wai (water) and tāngata (people) and how they interconnect. Eke Panuku has been working with Mana Whenua and design consortium Toi Waihanga to co-design the Te Ara Tukutuku vision and will be sharing the journey so far on Wednesday 26 March. Our very own Westhaven Marina has been accredited with ‘5 Gold Anchor’. Just like a hotel rating system, 5 Gold Anchors recognises Westhaven’s excellent facilities, outstanding customer service and commitment to continuous improvement. This internationally recognised achievement places Westhaven among the world’s top-rated marinas and makes it only the second marina in New Zealand to receive this coveted status. Congratulations to the Marina team.

🏡 Urban regeneration takes vision, strong partnerships, and time – which is why we’re celebrating a major milestone. 🎉 Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities has officially completed the final 30 homes in the Community Lane development in Avondale, bringing the total to 236 brand-new, modern homes. A huge shoutout to the team at Kāinga Ora for their vision and dedication in delivering this social housing development in Avondale! But that’s just the beginning—big things are happening in Avondale town centre. Alongside Auckland Council, we are bringing exciting changes with the construction of Te Hono—a modern library, community hub, and lively town square designed to be the heart of Avondale. We can’t wait to see our newest residents enjoying this space once it is completed and open. By working together with Kāinga Ora and other partners, we’re investing in Avondale’s future—supporting growth, improving local services, and creating amazing places for people to live, connect, and thrive. New Zealand's largest social housing development is now complete! After two and a half years, the final 30 homes in our 'Community Lane' development in Avondale, Auckland, are now ready for tenants. Where originally there were 45 older state homes, now 236 homes are spread across five buildings. Most of the homes have been designed with older people in mind but there are also some apartments for small families. Each building has its own community lounge while gardens and greenhouses provide outdoor spaces for tenants to meet and get to know each other. Over the last few years, we’ve created new public spaces and streetscapes that reinforce the heart of Takapuna and improves connections with the beach and other key public spaces, such as Waiwharariki Anzac Square. It is great to see the private sector come on board to provide housing and many new retail and hospitality options that will contribute positively to Takapuna's evolving landscape. We designed the waterfront with all people in mind – big and small, fishermen and apartment dwellers, old and young, and everyone in between. But if there’s one group that stands out the most, it’s the young. Our future grown-ups – the ones we’re ultimately creating these spaces for. So, things that mattered to them, made sense to them, were the right size, shape, and amount of play for them, were vital. From kicking a ball around Amey Daldy Park ⚽, to the excitement of the Fish Market 🐟, to scootering and seesaws at Hobson Wharf Pocket Park 🛴 , and paddling in the Karanga Plaza Harbour Pool 🏊 – they all get the tick of approval from our tamariki. If you design (and build, and deliver, and manage) spaces with children in mind, you design for everyone. Our streets become safer, our public spaces more inviting, and everything is infused with play—something that benefits us all. As a famous quote goes, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors—we borrow it from our children.” So, creating places for them just makes sense, don’t you think? Simon Oddie, our Priority Location Director for the City Centre, has said it perfectly. Successful regeneration is built on partnerships. As lead agency in Auckland’s city centre, we are working with other parts of council, the private sector, mana whenua and the community, to coordinate our efforts and ensure the city centre becomes one of the most loved and beautiful harbour cities in the world. The redevelopment of the Downtown Carpark by Precinct Properties and Ngati Whatua Orakei is another step in creating amazing places for all Aucklanders and visitors to the city to enjoy. Precinct Auckland Council Auckland Transport
🌟 Transforming Auckland’s City Centre: Downtown Carpark Redevelopment 🌟 The redevelopment of the Downtown Carpark and the wider “Downtown West” area is a powerful example of what we can achieve together. Together with Precinct Properties and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, we’re shaping an exciting new chapter for our city. This once-in-a-generation opportunity will transform Auckland’s city centre, helping to unlock its potential as a world-class destination. Successful regeneration is built on partnership. It takes collaboration between the private and public sectors, mana whenua, and the wider community to deliver shared outcomes and create spaces that truly benefit everyone. The “Downtown West” area will complete the missing link between the Viaduct, Wynyard Quarter, and Downtown Auckland, fulfilling the vision of the City Centre Masterplan. Key highlights include: 🏢 A mixed-use precinct featuring premium commercial, residential, retail, and hospitality spaces. 🏡 Hundreds of new homes, growing the city centre as a thriving urban neighbourhood. 🌿 Expansive public laneways and courtyards connecting Britomart, Commercial Bay, and the Viaduct. 🚎 A reimagined Lower Hobson Street, enhancing public transport, reducing congestion, and creating a vibrant, people-focused environment. With the City Rail Link (CRL) opening soon, the Downtown West project is perfectly aligned with Auckland’s transformation. It will improve access, connectivity, and liveability, ensuring that the city centre works for everyone—whether you’re living, working, studying or visiting. This redevelopment reflects our commitment to sustainable growth and collaboration. By working closely with Precinct Properties, mana whenua, and community stakeholders, we’re turning bold aspirations into tangible outcomes. Together, we’re building a vibrant, inclusive, and globally connected Auckland. 📰 For more on Precinct Properties’ plans, check out this recent article by Anne Gibson: https://lnkd.in/gipxjdS7 Eke Panuku Development Auckland #AucklandCityCentre #UrbanRegeneration #CityRailLink #Partnerships #MixedUseDevelopment #EkePanuku

The Symphony Centre is set to become a cultural, economic, and social catalyst for Tāmaki Makaurau’s midtown, delivering significant benefits to its residents, visitors, and the wider community. We’re incredibly proud to collaborate with our partners to bring this vision to life.
Shaping the Future of Tāmaki Makaurau’s City Centre Simon Oddie, Priority Locations Director at Eke Panuku, is leading a major urban regeneration project in Auckland’s City Centre – one that will reshape the cultural, social, and economic heart of the city. With a background as a Civil Structural Engineer and a passion for urban renewal, Simon has dedicated his career to creating vibrant, connected cities. Now, he’s bringing this vision to life through a partnership with @The Symphony Centre, a development that’s set to transform the Aotea Arts Quarter. Simon says the project is significant because it will be New Zealand’s first true over-station development, directly connected to the Te Waihorotiu City Rail Link station. It’s more than just a building – it’s a catalyst for change, redefining the area while preserving the cultural legacy of the Aotea Arts Quarter. This dynamic hub will breathe new life into the precinct, ensuring it remains a beacon for arts and culture. Here’s what Simon believes will make it stand out: 🚉 Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) in action Projects like The Symphony Centre demonstrate how connecting housing, retail, and cultural spaces with transit hubs can foster more sustainable urban growth. 🎭 A new cultural neighbourhood for Auckland The Symphony Centre is designed to enhance the city’s arts precinct while creating a place for people to gather, collaborate, and celebrate the cultural fabric of Tāmaki Makaurau. 🌱 A sustainable approach to urban growth The integration of transport, housing, and green spaces will improve the city centre’s liveability and promote long-term environmental and economic benefits. For Simon, this project is about more than regeneration – it’s about ensuring Auckland’s heart continues to serve as a thriving, connected hub for decades to come. 🟡 ◼ 🟡 ◼ 🟡 The Symphony Centre is a multi-purpose commercial / retail complex and transport hub being developed by RCP and MRCB in the Aotea Arts Quarter of Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau’s CBD.
