The Government is shifting the way it supports EV charging infrastructure away from the grant co-funding that has traditionally been used. Instead, the Government is considering alternative co-investment approaches that maximise private sector investment and enable the recycling of Crown capital, such as concessionary loans. We've opened a Request for Information (RFI) to gather information from the EV charging sector to help develop a new co-investment approach. It is being run by EECA on behalf of the cross-government Supercharging EV Infrastructure Taskforce, which includes Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Ministry of Transport and Crown Infrastructure Partners. Find more details, and respond to the RFI, here: https://lnkd.in/gZupBwzT

We've released a technology scan of new and emerging electric motor technologies, in partnership with GNS Science. Electric motors use a lot of energy and collectively make up around 40% of New Zealand electricity consumption. Within our homes and offices, electric motors are in most appliances, like refrigerators, computers, ovens and heat pumps. In our industrial sector, motors drive activities like mixing, crushing, drying and moving goods. The performance and energy efficiency of electric motors is improving rapidly because of advances in material science, design, electronics and other fields. Switching to more efficient and sustainable electric motor technologies can have a significant impact on lowering energy bills, increasing productivity and achieving emissions targets. ✨ Using multiple efficient motor components can improve overall efficiency (illustrated in graphic). The technology scan is geared towards people looking to make decisions about their current motor systems or those thinking about how motor systems will change in the future. Save money with fuel efficiency. Heavy freight vehicles are essential to transport goods around the country and move 93% of New Zealand’s total freight by weight.🚚 ➡️ Fuel is one of the largest ongoing costs for a fleet, with fuel costs accounting for more than a quarter of a business’s costs. ➡️ Measuring and managing fuel consumption, improving driving skills, and regular maintenance programmes can help fleet operators save money. EECA’s heavy freight pathway provides free tailored tools and resources to businesses using heavy freight vehicles – helping the sector save money and be more energy efficient. Hydrogen is already being used to fuel trucks on our roads, helping to lower emissions in the heavy transport sector. 🚚 NZ Post has been using a zero-emissions hydrogen fuel cell electric truck between Hamilton and Auckland since 2022. 🚛 HW Richardson Group has converted more than 6 heavy trucks to run on a mix of hydrogen and diesel, reducing emissions by up to 30%. Meanwhile, Hiringa Energy is developing a hydrogen refuelling network with fuelling stations across the North Island. Learn more about hydrogen-fuelled heavy vehicles ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gFqgkGYv
