Gender At Work Community reposted this
Did you know that 84% of individuals who experience Menopause feel that the symptoms negatively impact their work? Or that only 15% felt comfortable to communicate this with their employer? The conversation around Menopause has grown over the last few years, and we're proud to be regularly discussing it together with our partners at the Gender At Work Community. This year, to acknowledge World Menopause Day, we had an honest conversation with Danae Young and Sheronika Shandil from our Wellington teams about the very real impact of Menopause on their day-to-day. Learn more in the link below, and start your own conversations: https://lnkd.in/gbTzutne

💃 It's World Menopause Day 2024! 💃 Today, we invite everyone to pause and take a moment to talk and learn about menopause - te ruahinetanga in te reo Māori. Although menopause is experienced by half the world's population, it's still often stigmatised and not discussed openly. By continuing to raise awareness and share resources, everyone can play a part in ensuring people have the knowledge and support they need to navigate this important life stage. To mark this day, we asked New Zealanders: What do you wish people knew about menopause? Check out their answers in the posters below, and test your knowledge by taking our Menopause Quiz 👉 www.bit.ly/menoquiz2024 Let's keep talking about menopause and creating more supportive spaces for everyone. #WorldMenopauseDay #MenopauseAwareness #Menopause #GenderEquality #GenderatWork

🌟 Reflecting on our 'Making Workplaces Accessible' lunch event yesterday 🌟 A heartfelt thank you to our incredible speakers — Dr Huhana Hickey MNZM PHD, Pieta Bouma, and Rachael Parkinson-Turner — and our fantastic facilitator, Anna Beard. Your leadership and advocacy have had a profound impact on so many, and you have inspired us to reimagine accessibility in the workplace and society. 💡 Some key takeaways from the session: - Disability isn’t a deficit but a taonga — let's adopt an empowerment model. - 100% of people have needs, including access needs, and these needs will inevitably change over time. - People with disabilities are some of the best problem solvers, show incredible perseverance, and are as productive or more productive than non-disabled people. - 71% of people leave a website if it's not accessible. - With workplace inclusion, remember it's about progress not perfection. Accessibility benefits everyone, and it's possible for every voice to be heard, valued, and uplifted in workplaces. A shout out to SpecialGifts for providing us with beautiful gift boxes showcasing disabled individuals' unique skills and products. 🎁 #accessibility #disabilityinclusion #workplacediversity #genderatwork

💬 Kia kaha te reo Māori! Happy Māori Language Week 2024! This year’s theme is ‘Ake ake ake - A Forever Language’. This speaks to the resilience, adaptability, and endurance of Aotearoa’s indigenous language. To celebrate, we thought we would share some kupu (vocabulary) about gender to learn and practice! 📖

🌟 Kickstart your week with Ophelia Muller's powerful article on Aotearoa's gender and ethnic pay gaps, featured in Salient Magazine's 'Feminism Ain’t Dead'. We love tip #6 on building supportive relationships and finding champions. Having people to guide and tautoko you in a new role can make all the difference. Spot our CEO, Dellwyn Stuart, who is recognised in the article! Full issue here: https://lnkd.in/d_sSDAMM
Insane that Aotearoa still has a gender pay gap right??? One of the best things about Victoria University of Wellington is the constant encouragement of the student voice through the student run magazine, the Salient. One of the best things about the Salient is that if you have something you want to say they will make space for it. So here is something I wanted to speak on in this weeks issue, “Feminism ain’t dead”. As a young wahine entering the workforce at the end of this year, I am fortunate to have some amazing people helping me grow, one of whom I spoke to for this article (shoutout to the incredible Dellwyn Stuart)! Acknowledging that not every young wahine has this support I thought it maybe be useful to compile some tips. So have a read and to any fellow future wahine professionals, go us!
