About us

The Howick Youth Council (HYC) is a volunteer collective of passionate young individuals striving to make Howick, Pakuranga, Botany and Flat Bush, a more attractive and vibrant place for its young people. We're supported by the Howick Local Board with an aim to connect, develop and represent young people in the East Auckland area through running a variety of projects and ensuring youth voices are heard in the decisions that shape our city. Founded in 2011, the Howick Youth Council is one of the largest youth voice groups in Tāmaki Makaurau. We work with organisations like Auckland Youth Voice, Te Tuhi, Uxbridge Arts & Culture, Arts Out East, East Auckland Schools Head Students and within the Auckland Council family — this includes the Youth Advisory Panel and with organisations like Auckland Transport on consultations. HYC has successfully run dozens of projects to empower youth in recent years. Recently, this has notably included the East Auckland Youth Visual Art Showcase, Pride Allied, Youth Awards, Youth Film Festival and many more.
