Maritime New Zealand shares some life saving tips. Males over 45 years old are the most at risk of serious harm (including death) on the water. Lack of knowledge and complacency about your boat (rōnihi) 🚤 and equipment before you head out on the water (moana) are key factors. ✅ check your lifejackets, make sure there is no damage and they are still fit for purpose. ✅ check expiry dates on key pieces of equipment. ✅ check all batteries are fully charged, and you have a radio, ropes and flares. ✅ salty water can speed up the degradation process of items - check for wear and tear.
