Lyttelton Port Company

Yesterday the PortConnect team of Dana Folau, Christina Mackay, and David Knowles had the pleasure of being hosted by Abbey Clapp at Lyttelton Port Company.     The focus was training sessions for the customer service / R&D teams on the PortConnect Track and Trace website. With the LPC data going live on Monday, 4 November, it is important that the LPC team are aware of what information is being displayed and what it means for customers. Additionally, customer training sessions will be set up in the next few weeks.      There has been a huge positive response from the community that LPC will now be displayed on the PortConnect website, allowing users access to 85% of all containers transacted through ports in New Zealand.      We were also treated to a tour of the Port. The recent infrastructure developments are certainly impressive, as was the weather, it was a cracking day! The first two of KiwiRail's new Stadler locomotives arrived from Spain! These state-of-the-art DM Class locomotives meet EU emissions standards. Funded by a Government investment, they are set to replace the aging DX freight fleet and improve freight transport reliability across the country. It’s great to be working in partnership with KiwiRail, and we look forward to the 55 more to arrive.

The lighting upgrade at the Coal Yard has been recognised at the IESANZ annual lighting awards last Friday in Christchurch. It won Best Lighting Design: Highly Commended from the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand for Protecting the Night Sky Environment. The Lyttelton Port Company Coal Yard Exterior Lighting Upgrade installation project designed by WSP in New Zealand, replacing the old sodium lights with LED lights.

A great few days spent at the NZ Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation of New Zealand Inc. conference this week. It was great to host attendees for a tour through our wee slice of paradise at Lyttelton Port Company and be able to show and explain our expansion plans. A good day yesterday connecting with new faces and reconnecting with some old ones followed by an excellent gala dinner. Thanks for another great conference CBAFF.

LPC is the host port for the New Zealand Maritime Pilots' Association's biennial conference, which is being held in Christchurch this week and will focus on addressing the human in the pilot.
