Together with Australian Skin Cancer Foundation we were thrilled to provide skin checks to the Dolphins NRL at Moreton Daily Stadium last week Regular skin checks are essential, especially for those who spend a lot of time outdoors like professional athletes, who can receive up to 10x the amount of UV radiation compared to indoor workers. It began with what seemed like a harmless pimple on her nose, but after persisting for three weeks, Nat Barr sought medical advice. Despite its small size, it was diagnosed as cancerous. Following the diagnosis, Nat underwent treatment that included an anti-cancer cream and undergoing red light therapy, which targets cancer cells selectively. Her experience serves as a reminder that timely medical attention and regular skin checks are vital in detecting and treating skin cancer early, improving chances of successful treatment and recovery. Broadcaster Derryn Hinch sheds light on the fact that skin cancer, such as melanoma, can recur again. Hinch recently revealed that he is battling another facial skin cancer, detected in February. This new melanoma, requiring five rounds of radiation, adds to his previous experience with skin cancer on the opposite side of his face in 2016. He’s currently in his third round of treatment, encouraging everyone to get regular skin checks for early detection and prompt treatment. His story highlights the importance of vigilance and regular skin checks, particularly for those with a history of skin cancer or significant sun exposure.
