At a recent show-and-tell our AI team gave a demo that stopped me in my metaphorical tracks (it was Friday arvo, I was sitting down!). Our head of AI and ML, Arwen Griffioen, PhD, showed an interactive graph that visualises how our new AI models will learn from people's Hatch profiles to map their skills and values, especially their transferable skills, and match them to jobs that are a good fit for them. See a Hatch profile for “Lucy” - an early-career professional looking for the right next step. You can see that our AI model takes Lucy’s full profile (experiences, education, interests, values) to create a web of skills that could be applied to another job. The result for Lucy is discovering new career paths she might be really well suited for, and for hiring managers it’s finding the right people who genuinely fit on skills, passion, and values. I’m so passionate about transferable skills, they unlock new meaningful paths in our careers and make for better hires. 😮 WOAH - this might just be one of our favourite interviews yet. Hatch CRO Tom had the pleasure of hanging out with Notion's Head of GTM Recruiting, Keisuke to get to know how Notion has built a strong employer brand in APAC at phenomenal speed. If you aren't already across it, Notion was founded in 2013 by Ivan and Simon. But, the product was only officially launched to the public in 2016 - with a big part of the build being done in Japan. 🇯🇵 Japan became Notion’s first international office outside the US in 2020, followed by South Korea and then Australia this year. 🌎 Its user base has grown from 1 million in 2019 to 100 million in 2024. 🤩 Keisuke joined Notion two years ago as the first recruiter based in APAC to expand their go-to-market team, and the team has grown SEVEN times larger since then. Learning a lot along the way, Keisuke shared with us the strategies behind the company’s growth in the region, the cultural nuances they’ve navigated, and how they’ve tailored their employer branding. Shout out to Zoella for teaching me everything I know about vlogging For real though as obnoxious as this content is, before I started my first sales role I was asking existing reps to forward me all the emails they send in a week, just to get some idea of what it is they actually DO. It’s a function of huge privilege to have behind the scenes access to an industry before you’re in it. Big believer in seeing if this way of describing jobs encourages a wider net of people to apply for them 🙋♀️

Two weeks ago my CTO Ashwin staged a mini founder intervention… In a conversation he’s since described to me as “somewhat stressful”, he told me the timeline for releasing the updated version of Hatch was unrealistic. The team wasn’t going to make the deadlines and we were living in delusion. Oof. Rough day in the office. This new version of Hatch will be a huge leap forward and I don’t want to hold it back too long. But I really welcomed that conversation with Ash. I’m an optimist. Ash is a realist. You need both for genuine change, or you run around with deadlines you can’t meet or a vision half executed. This lead to the big question - do we push back the timeline, or refine the initial feature scope to keep the timeline? I believe the best way to build an incredible product is by having it in people’s hands, listening, and improving. Everything up until that point is navel gazing. And so we decided to refine scope to keep the target timeline, whilst preserving the product’s core magic. The red lines on my screen are our launch dates, and the sticky notes were the features we debated postponing until after we launch. This was hard to do and I chewed a fair few pens! We’ve since shared the update with the broader team - and there’s been a little collective sigh of relief. Personally, this was reminder of how important a balanced team is. No matter what you read, success never comes from one person. It comes from a group; sharing a vision, creating momentum, and helping each other to get there. #hatchfromscratch
