This year, we have five different menus to choose from, each featuring premium local ingredients, mouthwatering recipes and easy-to-follow instructions. We're excited to introduce more flexibility for our foodies, offering the ability to choose which 2 proteins they'd like in the large My Classic Christmas Bag. We're also bringing back our My Vegan Christmas due to popular demand, and a Gourmet option for something a little less traditional (and a bit fancy!). Plus, our more affordable Bargain Box option. It was great to comment in this NZ Herald article on behalf of My Food Bag on a topic I am passionate about - family mealtimes 🍽️🏡 There are undeniable and obvious benefits to sitting down and eating together without distractions - but we also need to be realistic!! In our house we have two parents working full time, afterschool activities, afterschool care and a grandparent who helps one night a week. I know a lot of other working families are similar. The juggle is real 🤹 The weekends can be a great time to slow down and get the fam around the table to share a meal. When we eat with our kids we role model what to eat but even more important - ‘how’ to eat. My non-negotiable is no screens at dinnertime. My son often comes to the dinner table with an iPad. Good on him for trying but that will never fly in our house! Why no screens? Our kids need the opportunity to fully experience eating and to learn how to tune in and listen to their bodies 🧠 Also in the article is some great strategies from one of our Bargain Box whānau showing how a solo mum manages mealtimes with her older kids 🧡

Kiwi dinnertime habits are changing. Whether it's due to fussy eaters or struggling to find time to sit down together, our recent Bargain Box Annual Dinnertime Check In Survey showed that families are spending less quality time sitting around the dinner table - with only 36% of people saying they eat together every night. Busier lifestyles, demanding work hours and eating dinner in front of a device/screen being the common call outs. NZ Herald caught up with a long-time Bargain Box customer on how she balances being a busy solo working mum with ensuring she's spending quality time with her kids over dinner.
