Breaking Ground at NZFIN! 🚧 Exciting progress is underway at NZFIN as we begin earthworks to install our new REDA CM100 low-temperature evaporator at FoodSouth. We're also this month commissioning a rotary evaporator at The FoodBowl. The new FoodSouth equipment is suitable for wine, juice, dairy, honey, and any other FMCG product requiring gentle concentration at low temperatures. It provides a sustainable, energy-efficient solution for product concentration and de-alcoholisation. Why are we so excited about the new evaporator at FoodSouth? This evaporator offers: ✅ Ultra-Low Processing Temperatures: Protects the delicate aromas and quality of your product, with no organoleptic changes – perfect for wine, juice, dairy, and extracts. ✅ Single-Step Alcohol Recovery and High-Level Concentration (up to 65-70° Bx): Ideal for applications requiring high precision and product consistency. ✅ Electric-Powered, Not Steam: Using only electricity, the heat pump technology is a sustainable alternative that eliminates the need for costly steam systems. Applications for this evaporator span across the dairy industry (milk, yoghurt, serum), beverages (juices, fruit concentrates, tea), the wine industry (grape must, dealcoholisation), and special products like honey, essences and extracts. NZFIN can't wait to complete the installations and add low temperature evaporation to our suite of capability to support local food and beverage innovation! #NZFIN #FoodInnovation #FMCG #LowTemperatureEvaporation #SustainableTechnology

The FoodSouth team in action today, demonstrating some of NZFIN's range of downstream processing capabilities for microbial fermentation. Thanks to our partnership with BioSouth, we're hosting over a dozen of Singapore's top scientists from A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Giving them hands on experience with solid/liquid separation, membranes, spray drying, extrusion, and UHT and learning about how to overcome the technical hurdles of taking a biological product from the benchtop to commercial scale production. Congratulations to Jemma Delore and the team at Mylk Made® (Nut & Seed Mylk Bases) on the launch of your Oat Mylk Powder! It has been a tough journey and your tenacity and resourcefulness have paid dividends. The team at NZFIN are so proud to have helped you along the way and we look forward to seeing you on Woolworths New Zealand shelves in 2025! #oatmilk #foodinnovation #NZFIN
Introducing the solution you’ve been waiting for - delicious, creamy oat mylk without the carton waste. One thing’s for sure, it’s been a long journey. From day one of launching Mylk Made, we have had regular enquiries about a pure oat milk base, but with the manufacturing process of our mylk bases it just wasn’t possible. So, we had the idea of an oat milk powder. 2.5 years ago, we approached New Zealand Food Innovation Network with our idea. We created our ideal recipe that ticked all the boxes we were after; no oils, added calcium and added protein. With the dream of this being made in New Zealand, it just wasn’t proving possible a few years back, and still has its challenges today. It’s still our end goal but for now, we have found a solution we are still super proud of and are very excited to finally get this out to the world! Available online now, and rolling out in select Woolworths New Zealand stores early next year. Also a big shout out to Alex Nicolle from NZFIN for all of your help over the years with this project. Thank you! Mylk Made® (Nut & Seed Mylk Bases) #oatmilk #oatmylk #oatpowder #foodinnovation

🌱 Last Thursday, NZFIN was proud to attend the Sartorius Open Day at BioSouth in Ōtautahi Christchurch, an event highlighting the rapidly evolving trends in bioprocessing. NZFIN's FoodSouth hub provides downstream fermentation processing capability and we're excited to be partnered with BioSouth to support innovative NZ companies in this space. We heard insights and updates from guest speakers Dr. Alec Foster (Scion) and Prof. Emily Parker (MBIE Science Advisor and Victoria University of Wellington), who provided an update around changes to the GM and GE regulations in NZ. Scion's open innovation approach and the portfolio of work underway in the Bioproducts and Packaging portfolio is impressive. Sartorius showcased their cutting-edge technologies in upstream and downstream processing, which play a critical role in advancing food-grade fermentation and processing capabilities for New Zealand companies. It was a fantastic day of learning and connecting with like-minded innovators working to shape a more prosperous future for NZ. #FoodInnovation #Bioprocessing #NZFIN #SustainableFood #BioSouth #Fermentation #FutureOfFood

Proud to support innovative businesses making impactful change. Good on you Daniel Carson and Mīti!
🌍 Fuelling Change with Mīti 🥩 The Meat the Need team is passionate about creating a sustainable future and ensuring nutritious food reaches those who need it most. That’s why we’re excited to support Mīti Beef Bites, a product that aligns with our mission. Made from New Zealand grass-fed young beef, Mīti is not only a source of long-lasting, healthy protein but also a game-changer in how we approach sustainable food production. 🌱 Why Mīti and Meat the Need? Mīti shares our commitment to making a difference – from reducing waste by using non-replacement calves, to creating a low-carbon beef ingredient that’s better for the environment. By backing this product, we’re supporting a vision that’s about more than just food – it’s about shaping a better, more sustainable future while ensuring that everyone, especially those in need, has access to healthy, nutritious protein. 🚀 Get Involved - Mīti’s first batch will be produced in November, and through PledgeMe, you can help bring this innovative product to life. For every $10 pledged, one packet of honey-infused beef bites will be donated to a local food bank – providing much-needed nutrition to communities in need, just as we do through our work at Meat the Need. With co-founder Daniel Carson leading the charge, Mīti is scaling up to make a real impact. By supporting this project, you’re not only fuelling yourself with the best New Zealand has to offer, but you’re also helping to fuel positive change in our communities.
