Last night, Russell McVeagh's Energy team, led by Head of Infrastructure Michael Loan, hosted a renewables panel discussion on how to accelerate the build out of New Zealand's large pipeline of renewable energy projects. The panellists provided great insights on a variety of topics, including how to grow the developing offtake market, forming views on future curtailment risk and the broader system settings that would facilitate more generation and battery energy storage projects coming online. A big thanks to our brilliant panellists John Clarke, Acting CEO Transpower New Zealand; Sarah Gillies, Chief Executive of the Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko; and Garth Elmes, Managing Director of Harmony Energy New Zealand, as well as everyone who attended our Auckland event. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and have the opportunity to catch up for drinks and nibbles after the discussion. With unanimous support from parties across the House, climate change adaptation is back on the Government's agenda. Last month, the Finance and Expenditure Committee released a report of its findings from its inquiry into climate adaptation. The purpose of this report was to develop and recommend high-level objectives and principles for the design of a climate change adaptation model for New Zealand, to support the development of policy and legislation to address climate adaptation. In our latest ESG blog update, our experts set out the background to the inquiry, the key recommendations in the Committee's report, and where the Government's climate adaptation work programme is likely to go from here.
