🌿 Introducing the TOHU Framework: Sensing and Interpreting Tohu to Heal from Trauma 🌿 The TOHU framework offers a powerful approach to understanding and addressing trauma through the lens of Māori knowledge and practices. Tohu (signs) help guide personal, eco-environmental, and spiritual wellbeing. Developed by Māori psychologists and mātauranga Māori specialists (including our very own Dr Andre McLachlan and Hera Love), this framework provides a holistic way to interpret tohu and promote healing from patu ngākau (psychological and spiritual trauma). Strengthening Māori Health and Well-Being
About us
Te Rau Ora (originally Te Rau Matatini) is New Zealand’s indigenous Māori organisation providing a range of local and national programmes to improve Māori Health. We have changed our name but not our passion nor our commitment – Strengthening Māori Health & Wellbeing is at the core of what we are doing. Our new name and look brings us into alignment with our mission, culture and belief to strengthen our people. The name ‘Te Rau Ora’ reflects our unique & inclusive way of capturing and exchanging overall kaupapa of what matters to Māori. We will maintain a commitment to the mental health and addiction sector and want the world to know that we are not just a workforce centre, but rather our overall focus is about the health & wellbeing of Māori.

#TeWikiotereoMāori is an annual celebration for all New Zealanders to show their support for the Māori language, an official language of this country. The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’. It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of our language. It also reflects the commitment New Zealanders have to embracing and learning te reo Māori long into the future. Under enduring pressure te reo Māori has shown it will adapt and survive. It grows with our people, our culture and our environment. How will you celebrate te reo Māori? https://lnkd.in/gQZ8kzN

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day💞 The triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2026 is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" with the call to action "Start the Conversation". This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. On the 25 and 26 of March 2024, the Māori Coalition Kaitiaki o Te Iho Tātai-ā-Rongo delivered an interactive Wānanga held at Te Papa- ō- Rotu Marae, Whatawhata. Attendance from an amazing group of participants - Kōhanga Reo, Ministry of Education, Oranga Tamariki and whānau with lived experiences of Te Iho Tātai-ā-Rongo. The Māori Coalition Kaitiaki o Te Iho Tātai-ā-Rongo are dedicated to whānau and those who experience Te Iho Tatai ā Rongo, a gift from Rongo. This is the name the Māori Coalition Kaitiaki o Te Iho Tātai-ā-Rongo use for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The workshop introduces ‘Te Whare o Oro’. This model incorporates whakapapa kōrero of a whare tūpuna, using traditional kupu whakarite to discuss the structure and function of the roro (brain), how to support the development of our tamariki, and responding to trauma in a culturally informed way. Te Whare o Oro is developed in partnership with Te Rau Ora and Te Atawhai o Te Ao. Watch this space for future Wānanga.
