Helping people is what we do every day

About us

At the Wise Group we believe in creating new opportunities for the wellbeing of people, vulnerable populations, organisations, and communities. We operate in New Zealand's mental health and addictions sector, are one of the largest non government providers in the sector From humble beginnings over 30 years ago, today we employ over 1,500 staff throughout the country, working in areas from frontline service to software development. We have a parent and subsidiary structure encompassing a family of charitable entities, all linked by a common dream. Our structure nurtures synergy and innovation, and means we’re transparent and accountable. Our whānau includes: • Wise Management Services • Pathways • Real • Te Pou • Le Va • Workwise • Wild Bamboo • LinkPeople • The People's Project • Housing First Auckland Here's what drives us: Each year our Group works with thousands of New Zealanders and their families. We provide people with a broad range of community-based mental health and wellness services. In doing so we dramatically reduce their need for high-cost hospital and acute services and help people have happier, more fulfilling and more productive lives. Each year the Group's housing services help people find and live in affordable homes, also helping them appreciate the rights and responsibilities of being tenants and managing homes. Each year the Group's employment agency helps people who experience a serious mental health condition get off benefits, become financially independent and reclaim their self-esteem by finding and retaining paid jobs. Each year people throughout the country attend professional development programmes through the Group's NZQA certified training organisation. Each year thousands of mental health professionals in the public and private sector are supported and developed via the Group's national workforce development organisation. Together we make a real difference by creating connections to support people to find and live their dreams.

🎼One of the beautiful waiata we practice at Le Va each week is 'Hutia te rito', a song based on a whakataukī or Māori proverb that speaks to valuing people and caring for future generations by preserving the heart of the flax plant. We brought that metaphor to life this week by breaking out our weaving skills and having mindful moments making creations out of actual harakeke, led by our cultural committee and CE Denise. We hope you are finding fun and meaningful ways to connect and celebrate te wiki o te reo Māori at your home, school or workplace. Ake ake ake - kia kaha te reo Māori! Hutia te rito o te harakeke Kei hea te kōmako e kō? Kī mai ki ahau He aha te mea nui? Te mea nui o tēnei ao? Māku e kī atu kia koe He tangata, he tangata, He tangata, hī! If you remove the heart Of the flax bush From where will the Bellbird sing? If you say to me What is the most important thing In this world? I will reply to you It is people, it is people, It is people! #LeVa #tewikiotereomāori

This week we are celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori from 14 to 21 o Hepetema 2024.   This week, we are going to be sharing some of the ways we use te reo Māori in our day-to-day mahi.   On the 14 of September 1972 - Te Petihana Reo Māori – the Māori language petition - was presented on the steps of Parliament.   The theme for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori this year is ‘Ake ake ake – A forever language’, representing the resilience, adaptability and endurance of te reo Māori.   Kia kaha te reo Māori!   Follow this link to view more resources and information about te reo Māori: https://lnkd.in/gQZ8kzN #TeWikiOTeReoMāori #MāoriLanguageWeek

It’s our Birthday! 🎂 Today, Just a Thought turns five! 🖐 Five years ago today, we launched with some pretty lofty ambitions — to support the growing number of people across Aotearoa struggling with mental health challenges, ease the burden on our overwhelmed mental health care system, and do it all for free. Today, we’re proud to say we’ve supported over 72,000 New Zealanders with 14 specialised, evidence-based courses, a resource hub, and courses translated into NZ Sign Language. We’ve posted hundreds of social media posts, written thousands of lines of code, taken Just a Thought on the road to many conferences, speaking events and even TV, all fueled by countless cups of coffee! And we’re not slowing down any time soon.    With our co-designed substance harm courses set to launch later this year, we’re committed to continuing this important kaupapa and to support as many Kiwis who need it. Ngā mihi to everyone who has been with us on this journey — whether you’ve taken a course, shared a resource, or simply told a friend or whānau member about us.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Hear from Work Counts on the latest research, around the effectiveness of employment support in Aotearoa.

A paper newly published in the The New Zealand Medical Journal on 6 September contains clear messages about the effectiveness of employment support in Aotearoa. The article, based on research conducted by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), explains the impacts of IPS employment support on key social indicators. Warren Elwin says the study demonstrates both social impact and financial return. “The study is historically significant not just for the opportunity to provide findings and observations for the government's social investment approach here in New Zealand, but also internationally where IPS employment support is present. It’s also as close to a randomised controlled trial (RCT) as you can get.” Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/gWQB8fv9 #EvidenceBased #IPSEmploymentSupport #NewZealandMedicalJournal #NewZealandResearch

Our August e-bulletin is out now. This month we feature the expansion of our Mental Health Act resources to include versions in Te Reo Māori. This enhancement is a reflection of our commitment to providing accessible and culturally relevant information to all members of our community.   We also highlight the growth of the lived experience workforce in Aotearoa with an article from our National Manager - Lived Experience Amanda Bradley discussing the new initiative that introduces mental health and addiction peer support workers into emergency departments (EDs). This aims to improve patient experiences, reduce ED pressure, and support clinical staff, and shows the growing recognition of the value of this amazing workforce.    You can read the full article, as well as the latest updates, workshops, and new resources in our August e-bulletin here: https://lnkd.in/gy_ewtAx

A thought-provoking and timely opinion piece in today's NZ Herald, co-authored by Wise Group chief executive Shelley Campbell and Professor Peter Crampton.  “As citizens we must be prepared to enter this debate in an informed way. This requires us to look forward and consider who we want to be as a people and a country... "Māori and non-Māori in far greater numbers now see a future where our sense of “who we are as New Zealanders” reflects all cultures and uniquely embraces tikanga and te ao Māori in a way that includes and benefits us all."

Congratulations to The People’s Project (TPP) on its tenth birthday! In ten years, TPP has delivered 1,765 housing outcomes in Hamilton and Tauranga. TPP is the Wise Group’s Housing First service that supports adults without dependent children who are experiencing homelessness . Its goal is audacious: to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-reoccurring. We are so proud of The People’s Project team for these great results, and for carrying out this important mahi that has changed the lives of hundreds of people who have experienced homelessness in Aotearoa.
