On 30 July 2014, our Women in Tech community had our very first meetup - back then it was a sit-down multi-course dinner and everyone would switch seats between courses for maximum networking. To celebrate us reaching double-digits we're going to throw a good old fashioned birthday party on 1st August and we'd love you to come! Last night we had our last Women In Tech NZ event for the year. We decided to go low-key for this one, and instead of having speakers give everyone some open-mic time to celebrate absolutely anything they wanted for the year ✨ We heard from people leaving jobs, learning new skills, moving countries, starting new hobbies, and really appreciating the value of the community around us. It was an incredibly wholesome evening! I'd love to acknowledge our wonderful sponsors Auror and FirstAML, and our amazing organisers Shirley Tricker, Elina Ashimbayeva, Lisa Wong, and Alisha Singla who make this all happen. Shirley and I also realised that in July 2024 we'll have been running these (and the Slack community that goes with it) for 10 years... so look forward to some kind of celebration 🎉

Our last Women In Tech NZ event for the year ✨ Everyone got 1 min of so-called stage time to celebrate anything they wanted for the year: leaving a job, starting a new one, moving countries, starting a hobby, finding community love to make it through the year. It's been a tough one. Our new government and support/inaction of ongoing genocide by our global leaders give me no hope. But the community and people around me give me all the hope. We will stand together to celebrate our wins and do the hard thing. I didn't help with this event; I just showed up with my lil bro (pictured at the front) and got to bask in the glory of my amazing co-organisers Tanya Johnson, Alisha Singla, Shirley Tricker & Lisa Wong. So much love and respect and admiration for this crew 🥹 Hope you can find many things to celebrate and be proud of this year, friends ❤️
