My second participation in the EMEA! It was great to showcase our story of Takatuf Scholars Programme and what we learned though the way... And a pleasure to re-connect with our colleagues in the field, and connect with new ones!
Welcome to highlights from Day 2 at The Forum on Education Abroad's Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Conference! Thursday's programming began with U.S. Ambassador to Greece George J. Tsunis and Nikos Papaioannou, Secretary General for Higher Education, Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, welcoming participants to the EMEA Conference. Ambassador Tsunis expressed the importance of global engagement and international connectivity through education abroad. We are honored that they were able to join us yesterday! "Embracing and Transforming Conflict to Enhance Education Abroad Learning for All" was the topic of the EMEA Conference's Opening Plenary Panel; attendees were able to gain insights into how they approach conflict and ideas for using conflict transformation to enhance programs, host community partnerships, internships, and student learning. Thank you to Dr. David Wick (Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey), Christiane Magnido (Middlebury C.V. Starr School, Cameroon), Kerstin Wilsch (Middlebury C.V. Starr School, Jordan), and Jon Hutchinson (EUSA - Academic Internship Experts) for sharing your rich insights with conference attendees before a day filled with Concurrent Sessions. Sessions covered a variety of topics, from the multi-dimensional impact of international education on Morocco's societal fabric to crafting cultural awareness in faculty-led programs. Special thanks to Study in Greece for hosting a session titled, "Fostering International Partnerships to Boost Study Abroad in Greece" to showcase the success of Greek universities in building global partnerships and delivering impactful study abroad programs, highlighting the country’s growing influence in international education. Presenters included Professor Nancy Pouloudi (Athens University of Economics and Business), Professor Sophia Papaioannou (the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens), Evangelos Katsarelis (the Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University), and Theodoros Papaioannou, PhD (Study in Greece). The Forum thanks College Year in Athens for hosting the EMEA Conference at the Athens Conservatoire! #ForumEMEA24 #educationabroad #internationaleducation #USGreeceEduBridges #internationalpartnerships #culturalawareness
