📢 PNGEITI is delighted to attend the 6th PNG Alluvial Mining Convention and Trade Show 2024 in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province. 🧭The three day event brings together stakeholders from across the alluvial mining sector to discuss its challenges, opportunities and the vital need for transparency and regulation. PNGEITI earlier expressed concern that alluvial mining is largely unregulated with limited information about its magnitude and scope of its activities. However, we hope that players in the alluvial mining sector will provide answers to some of these questions during the three day event. The PNG Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (#PNGEITI) is urging companies in the extractive sector to uphold their commitments to transparency, including their tax obligations to the government. Executive Director Lucas Alkan emphasized that these companies committed to the EITI reporting framework when they signed on to support the Government in implementing the EITI Global Best Practice Standard in 2013. 𝐏𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐈𝐓𝐈 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐅𝐅 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝟐 𝐈𝐍 𝐆𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄 A total of 14 staff from PNGEITI graduated on Thursday 08th of August, 2024 with National Certificate 2 in Government and Public service. The graduation follows a week-long induction course at Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG) in Port Moresby, National Capital District. Under the guidance from SILAG legal council, PNGEITI staff took an oath to be loyal and committed in their duties as public servants. SILAG representative, Nellie Arabagali encouraged the graduating staff to serve the public service with commitment and dedication. PNGEIT Executive Director, Mr. Lucas Alkan encouraged the graduating staff to keep learning and to pursue further training either within or outside the country as this will help benefit the secretariat. The course offered by SILAG is undertaken by probationary officers before being employed in public service. The induction training provides the participants with necessary knowledge and attitude required for them to perform in a public service work environment. Trainer, Andrew Walne said the curse is all about working in a public service environment, knowing the systems, processes and procedures as well as legislative requirement in order to provide quality services to the public service. The training equipped our team with the essential knowledge and attitudes needed to excel in a public service environment. 🌟 Exciting Visit! 🌟 Recently, our Papua New Guinea Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PNGEITI) staff had the opportunity to visit the LNG Plant Site, thanks to the organization and coordination of the Government Relations Business Unit of ExxonMobil PNG. The visit included an insightful overview of the Operations Plant, providing the PNGEITI team with a deeper understanding of the plant’s operations and the critical processes involved. A highlight of the visit was meeting with the skilled Operations & Maintenance Technicians who oversee the Central Control Room (CCR). Their expertise and dedication are essential to ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the plant. This visit underscores the importance of transparency and collaboration in the extractive industries.
