The impact of climate change and natural disasters on Pakistan is significant, with the country being among the most vulnerable in Asia and the Pacific. The average annual losses from such events surpass $2 billion, showcasing the economic toll they take. Particularly concerning is the disproportionate impact on women and other vulnerable groups, exacerbating the challenges they face. In 2022, the devastating floods in Pakistan resulted in staggering economic losses amounting to $14.9 billion, underscoring the urgent need for resilience-building measures. The Climate and Disaster Resilience Enhancement Program aims to address these vulnerabilities by enhancing Pakistan's institutional capabilities in planning, preparedness, and response. Additionally, the program seeks to promote inclusive investments in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience, ensuring a more equitable and sustainable approach to addressing these pressing issues. Furthermore, the program advocates for the adoption of a risk-layered approach to disaster risk financing, aiming to bolster the country's capacity to manage and mitigate the financial implications of future calamities. By focusing on strengthening resilience at both institutional and community levels, Pakistan is taking proactive steps towards a more secure and sustainable future in the face of climate change and natural disasters. https://lnkd.in/gRrXbXr5
